05 black swirled Maxima

05 Maxima with it's fair share of swirls. The process after a dawn wash & claying was OHC with an LC yellow cutting pad via rotary. 900 rpms up to 1800 working till polish starts to clear then back down to 900. I find this leaves a better finish after compounding. Hood and trunk were compounded three times to remove most of the RIDS. The car then was polished with an LC white polishing pad with 106FA. 900 rpms up to 1500 then back down to 900. IPA wipe down (twice). LSP OCW. Had the car two days, could only spend about four hours a day on it because of my work schedule. The first day we had sun but not the next, so sorry for no after sun shots.

Night and day...or should I say, day and night. That's the way black should look like. It was pretty damn bad before you did your magic.

Thanks guy's. I just wish it was sunny or at least not raining so I could have taken it out of the garage for some pics.

Think I need to place in an order for a makita too.. Doing that in 8 hours seems impossible with my flex, though I have never done a maxima so I wouldn't know.

Thanks. The flex is quite capable of these results. I've corrected much worse with my PC when I used it for correction. It will take a little longer though. The paint on this Maxima was on the harder side. With the Flex or PC you would need to add another polishing stage because of the hazing from compounding would be too much for a finishing polish.

Amen... The lord would get blind if he shined his light on this sucker :P

Did you find it hard to polish without getting holograms when you started using the makita DSVWGLI?

Not really. I followed the tips from the pro's here, and it didn't take long to figure it out. I find the rotary more comfortable and natural to use apposed to the PC. You do have to be careful, as you can do a lot of damage if you treat it like a PC. There is a lot of info here if you do a search on rotary use.

Those black maxima paints are fairly soft. Great job on the car. How did it get like that in the first place?

He has owned it for about 8 months, so most of the damage was done prior. The paint on this car was quite hard actually.
