03' Electron Blue Corvette Z06 (lots of pics!!)

No problem Rick!

Actually your Z06 will not drop as low as Josh's coupe did since the springs are firmer in the Z06. Just leave one thread on the rear and go max down in the front.

Ryan-

After finishing with all of the compounding, I tested a few areas using Ultrafina using the blue UF pad. Under the halogens, it seemed to have removed all of the compounding haze and left a swirl free finish which is impressive on such hard clear. This was my first time using the UF, so I basically used the 106 as a safety because I am familiar with it. I definitely could have gotten away with just using the 106, but did witness a noticeable improvement after following with the UF. It definitely seemed to bump up the gloss factor!

The UF worked so well that I really wanted to just use it by itself without the 106, but like I said, it was my first time using it and didn't want to take any chances.

Ultrafina is definitely an AMAZING product!!!

I've been waiting for you to get around to doing your own car. Glad to see your hard work is rewarding yourself for a change. I think you might be correct about the lowering thing here in MA. I cannot imagine a vette any lower with these New England pot holes and overly exaggerated raised parking lot thresholds. When your looking to buy new wheels, check out the classified section over at Digital Corvettes. I just bought a new set of 07 chrome wheels for $600 from a guy in NH. By the way, I made the same mistake of taking my car out on a warm winter day. When I got back it was covered in salt dust.:wall

Where was the guy from where you got the wheels?

It's good to be safe and you are right.

3M recomends their Swirl Remover polish after the Extra Cut, but their Swirl Polish is messy and useless. I use SIP or 106 like you did. 106 will be a good substitute as it has more grunt then their Swirl Polish.

UF is a great polish to mix with others too. Cuts the dust down, and improves the workability

I wanna try 40% PG/ 60% UF and see how it works as an alternative to SIP when SIP acts up.

Thanks everyone for all of the compliments!

Patrick-I'll have to check out the DC classifieds. I go on The Corvette Forum from time to time and dream a little. I may look into buying bigger wheels, either 18/19 inch or 19/20 inch and forget about lowering it. If I do that it will fill a little of the gap in my wheel wells. Like you said, New England is not a very Corvette friendly area. I may also look into getting a cowl good for it as well. Nothing too extreme, but just enough to make it look a little different. Hopefully spring will be here before we know it so we can enjoy our cars again!

Ryan- I can't wait to do some more testing with both Ultrafina and Extra Cut Compound. The UF definitely sounds like a great product to mix in with others for a longer working time and less dusting as you stated.

How many cars have you done using the Extra Cut so far? It worked great on my rock hard clear and I'm curious to see how it performs on softer paint. I ldid leave minor hazing, but cleaned up easily with the 106. I'll have to do a side-by-side comparison of 3M EC and SIP to see how they compare to one another. If the EC performs on every car the way it did on my car, I think I may start using it more often than the SIP. It's still too early to tell though.

I think 3M really did a great job on both of these products. I always used 3M products in the past with great results, but some better products have come along such as Menzerna, Optimum and a few others. I think they might have hit a home run with these two products! I wish I had tried them sooner, but I just could not find any locally.

I have been using the 3000 series compounds since the spring and have gone through a few bottles already. I also have the Regular compound 06062 which is a little lighter than Extra cut. The 06062 is for softer paint, but the 06060 Extra Cut with the right pad will do.

I am on my second bottle of UF. It does cost more in the long run for UF versus other finish polishes cause more is used, but the money is well worth as you now see.

Wait till you use UF on soft PITA blacks. You'll wish you had it years ago. I know I sure do.

Can't wait to see your car in person.

Ryan, the guy was from Milton NH. He was transforming his C6 into a Z06. He sold me his new stock chrome wheels and he bought replica Z06 wheels. When I spoke with him a few months ago, he was already into it for ten grand.

Ryan, do you feel the Extra Cut is too agressive for a softer clear with a considerable abount of defects?

I would really like to try 3M's Extra Fine Compound, but it's not available here yet. Only in the UK as I'm sure you know.

I may have to look into that Josh. How involved is it to do? I definitely love the looks.

I'm thinking about buying some Z07 style wheels for it in the spring.

I never would have thought that the roads in TX would be that bad.

Scottwax- Thanks!

It's really not that involved. Get on the Corvette forum and do a search for it, or find some local Vette guys and do a little mod party, they will show you. It took me and my friend about 45 minutes (he knew what he was doing though) We just jacked up the front, turned the bolts, let it down, then jacked up the back, turned the bolts and let it back down. It took about 3-4 days to settle completely, if you don't like it, you can always redo it back to normal. :bigups

Oh really? I had no idea it was that easy. Is my car any different because it is a ZO6? If that's all it takes, I may have to play around some day. Did you notice any difference in the ride quality? Thanks for the info. I love free mods!

The Z has a different suspension, but still uses the same bolts to hold it all together so it should be no different then mine was.

I did notice a difference in the ride quality, but I liked it better that way. It seemed to not lean as much in cornering and was a slight bit rougher over bumps, but not that bad. It's a Vette, so it wasn't the smoothest ride to begin with.

It was lower, handled better, but a slight bit rougher, but I loved it way more lowered.:woot2:

It works great on softer clear with a white polish pad or even an orange pad.

A bunch of us have to get together and pick up some UK Extra fine 80349.

Also the Fast Cut Plus, I heard is superb.

3M has really come around for sure. It took long enough.

I heard the same thing about Fast Cut Plus and also great things about the Trizact compound.

We should team up on a few details and buy some supplies with the money. We'll split it up between the both of us and make up some samples too.

Awesome looking car. I know that color looks a lot better in person than it does in pictures. Hard to get the full depth of the color in photos. Great job though!

Here are some more pictures of the car after 2 additional coats of Z2Pro. Sorry, but there are no sun shots because by the time I get out of work, the sun is down already.
