02 honda odyssey...ugh

i did an exterior job on a coworker's 2002 honda odyssey today...the paint was a pain in the butt! i thought all honda paint was easy...this one threw me for a loop. it's a medium green/gray color, so doesn't show all defects easily...but under direct sun or halogens it was swirl city.

i tried DACP #83 w/ LC pads...white...orange...yellow...only with speed 6, slowly moving, and more pressure than i like could i get rid of maybe 80% of the swirls. the yellow pad was worthless on it and i stuck with a 5.5" orange. the owner never had any repainting done on it, but the hood and rear door were hideous to correct, while the door panels were fairly normal.

i also tried the same pads w/ OHC and that seemed to work a bit better, but still sucked.

???

The PC has its limits.

You have to look at how far the finish has came and when to call it quits. I worked on a vehicle over and over with different products. Couldn't get all the swirls out. Thought I would let the customer down. I ended up with a 50 buck tip.

You and the PC can only do so much bro.

Yeah, as great as the PC is, it does have it's limits. I am working on a black BMW right now, and can't get the finish to more than 95% for the life of me. Seems that some parts of the car are VERY prone to hazing(and even MF marring), while other panels finish down very clear(using OHC). Just learn to live with it, and use an LSP that has some filling properties and call it a day.
