02 blue Vette

Today I detailed a 2002 blue Vette. I picked this one :grinno: and a half an hour later I was home and ready to go. The over all condition was ok but had bad swirls and scratches. This customer was not in a rush and wanted a really good job ( what I don't always do good work? ;) ) so I spent 12 hours on his Vette :buffing: . I started with propel yellow pad with 1Z upp but thought I would try the orange pad as it is suppose to be more aggressive. I found after a panel that it was more aggressive. I guess I should listen to Patrick. I thought it turned out pretty nice but I couldn't get all the scratches out, some were just too deep. He was blown away, said it never looked so good, I love it when they get excited about their cars. Anyways onto the process and pics.

wash

clay

dry with leaf blower

PC with propel orange pad 1Z upp speed 6 twice ( 3 times on hood & trunk )

PC with propel green pad ssr 2.5 speed 6

WG DGPS 1 coat

Nice work but some pics still don't work. How was the difference between the green pad and the orange? How well did the orange pad work for you?

There is a huge difference between the green and orange. The orange is propel's most aggressive pad, the green is a polishing pad. The orange pad is a unique pad because it is very dense but has a close cell foam much like a polishing pad. The yellow pad has more open cell design, feels more aggressive but is not as dense. For an example I can use ssr2.5 with the orange pad and get more cutting from it than a yellow pad and it also will finish up more like a polishing because of the finer foam design. As far as the pics

Gotta give ya a big :xyxthumbs: for tackling 'vette paint via PC. She looks great, in the future you might want to try something like RMG or VM or FTG on the big scratches that won't come out, I've found that that helps alot in my experience.

Thanks everyone, I appreciate your comments. I have to say that was the most labour intense detail yet :faint: .

I'm still trying to convince this guy at an office complex I have clients at that his '03 50th Anniversary 'vette coupe needs to be detailed. He daily drives it and I regularly see mud slung up the sides of it!! :wall

Very nice work though; Electron Blue is an awesome color when detailed right!

Comming up soon here I'll be spending close to 30 hours on a 1980 MGB LE... I still haven't decided what to charge the owner. The car apparently just sits 90% of the time covered inside a garage, so she wants it as clean as if it were just built yesterday! (only 30K original miles, and AFAIK original paint).

30 hours??!!?!!? That'd work out to about a grand in my book, I'd really like to see before and afters, cause knowing what can be done in 5 hours, 30 sounds like it will come out amazing.

Well, just keep in mind that I'll be doing EVERYTHING by hand; this is a 25 year old car with everything 100% original. Before/Afters will be posted indeed; this will be the true Final Exam as the car is black on black :shocked

I'm doing the same lady's black '01 Aurora 4.0 on Friday :waxing: (I'm thinking she must be a glutton for punishment with two black cars!!)

I used to have animosity towards the pc/buffer. It is all in knowing how, and the method. Once I got acquainted with the pc, a good polish system, and of course my favorite wax, I couldn't believe what I was missing!!!

Happy detailing!!

I dunno if this was directed towards me or not, but I've been using a PC for the past 5 years on 99% of the details I do. I also just acquired a rotary to start practicing with. The only reason I'll be doing this specific detail by hand is that I dont want to take ANY chance of problems arising on 25 year old factory single stage paint, with who knows what kind of history. :waxing:
