Great work! I have been messing with a bit of wetsanding as of late. Good to know that the PITA GM clear takes some real work/cut to remove the OP.

You should see the new black Z06s. :shocked One guy had wetsanded his new black Z06 as he had done it in the past on many cars. Its the way they should come from the factory.

Made a huge difference! :goodjob

Great post !!

Do you think that wetsanding by hand will get the same results as wetsanding via PC?

I used the PC + 2000 + 4000 and then polished and I didn't remove this amount of orange peel you removed...

well ive never used a pc for wetsanding, ive used da's/waterbugs, but i prefer the feel by hand. not to mention air da's w water function tend to leave little pig tail looking things that i dont think are too easy to remove. ive sanded alot of cars for a body shop lately, and a da doesnt save me much time if any.

VaSuperShine...sorry, I read page 1 and got so excitied, I posted for a write-up before I noticed there was a page 2. It's a great write-up, and I can't wait to give it a try. Thanks.

Does wetsanding also handle severe swirls??? I know a guy that has a white Ford Taurus that has horrible, horrible swirls and slight orangepeal. Would the wetsanding take care of both, because I'm certain he'd let me give it a shot.

Is there every the concern of going thru the clear?

well yeah i guess it does take care of swirls, depending on your pad selection youre going to induce new swirl marks so if thats his main concern i wouldnt recomend sanding his paint and just polishing it. the only reason i sanded that truck down is i couldnt stand looking at it after all the time i put in polishing it. wetsanding definitely isnt a first resort, definitely last.

IMO, wetsanding should be like the last thing you try before killing yourself haha... BUT when done properly, like this case... it really helps the end product... that trailblazer looks awesome.

Ok mate, I'll try wetsanding by hand half a panel and see how much orange peel I remove.

Thanks !! :wavey

quick update w a lot of pics. the sanding marks are decieving on these pics as they were still a little wet with #34 so they arent uniform looking in pics. i decided to sand the pillars with 2k and compound with pc and orange spot pad. rear panel was 15 2k 25 3k then pollished with pc 4 inch orange spot pad ohc

Were you checking your passes with a paint guage meter?

no, if standard orange peel removal techniques were to burn through or thin the factory paint to detremental proportions i don't want it anyway. i will know within a few months for sure if the thickness level was comprimised in which case if yes, i am due a huge discount at a shop i do work for. i'd rather respray and have a smooth finish than deal with factory crap.
