01' Torch Red Corvette detail BY HAND w/Werkstatt Products

Hey all,

This Corvette was just sold, so it needed to get cleaned up so it could go out on Thursday (yesterday). You are all probably wondering why I did this car by hand instead of using a buffer like I always do. It's actually kinda funny.... Well, not really :( . My new Makita buffer that is only 4 months old died on me on the first panel. It was working off & on and then completely stopped working altogether. No big deal, I called the place I got it from and they came and picked it up and said they would either fix it or replace it with another one. In the meantime until the other one is fixed, I figured I'd go to my house and get my own personel buffer (identical buffer which is about 6 months old) and use that for the time being. So, I get back to the shop, set up the buffer, start buffing, and guess what?? This one did the same thing!! Needless to say, I don't think I will be buying another Makita rotary any time soon.



So, since I didn't have a buffer (actually 2 buffers) I decided to do it all by hand and do the best I could with what I had to work with. All in all it came out pretty good, but I felt bad and told the owner to come back when the car gets dirty and I would give him a free exterior detail to make it up to him.



Here is my process:



Washed complete exterior



Cleaned wheels & engine compartment



Removed grease & tar from bottom panels with Nylon Spotter solvent



Werkstatt's Prime by hand to complete exterior



Werkstatt's AJ by hand x2 to complete exterior



Werkstatt's CJ by hand to complete exterior



Werkstatt's Prime on wheels & exterior glass (worked awesome on aluminum wheels!)



Super Blue dressing on tires & wheel wells

In the bright sun you could still see the deep scratches but I have to say I an VERY, I mean VERY impressed with all of Jeff Werkstatt's products. I really wasn't sure what the outcome would be without any machine polishing, but I was pleasantly surprised when I pulled it outside and saw the results.



Have any of you with a Makita buffer noticed the same thing? I believe it was shorting out where the cord goes into the buffer itself. Not very impressive for only being less than 6 months old!
 
Rick, Sorry about the problems with your rotarys. You still came thru!!!



I used the same combo (prime, AJ/CJ) that you did on a TR vette and it looks great too. Yes prime is very nice on the wheels. A little goes a very long way. :up

Yes, C5 clearcoat can be conquered.

Good thing Prime has some filling properties. :)



Looks really good, especially considering where you were starting from and doing a hand job only.

Regarding your buffer, same thing happen to my Makita...turns out it was a $17 cord replacement.
 
looks nice.



makitas are known for having problems with the power cords shorting out if they aren't taken care of and some that even are. The wires like to short out inside of them. I had to rewire a makita buffer that i used to use maybe 5-6 times, theres only like 3-4 wires inside that cause the problem. I now use a dewalt
 
fanstastic job! my jaw dropped on that other vette too.



the super blue dressing looks good--does it sling at all?

I think your monitor needs to be adjusted. Looks red to me.
