Car-pro Flyby30 Vs Gtechniq G5

Well after 8 months with G5 an 3 months with Flyby I can honestly say there is a clear winner (No pun intended).

Flyby30

Pros ~
Super slick coating feel
Easier application
A little goes a long way

Cons ~
More prep required
Sheets over time, I prefer beading (This is my opinion though)
Doesn't hold up as well to dirt an debris. Windshield gets way more dirty than G5.

Gtechniq G5

Pros ~
Longer life
Beading 50+% more
80% Cleaner windshield
Lower "fly off speed" - I noticed speeds around 32mph water was moving vs Flyby's 38+ mph.

Cons ~
More tricky application an prep
Requires more product
No silica "feel"

Overall I definitely feel that Gtechniq outperforms flyby by ALOT. Keep in mind I am a Car-pro hoarder, I currently have 2 liters of hydro, 6 liters of perls, 6 liters of eraser as well as 3 coats of cq uk on my car as well as dlux on EVERYTHING. I'm way more biased towards car-pro but this one I have to give hands down to Gtechniq. I hope this helps guys.
 
Thanks for the update. I've used G5 on my DD and haven't been impressed by the results. You're pro's/con's make me wonder if I had hidden application issues. The windshield was first prepped CeriGlass so I know it was surgically clean. What style of applicator do you prefer?
 
Nice review. So you're saying G5 lasted longer than flyby? I've had flyby on my glass for over 8 months and it is still performing. I use two coats though.
I have a bottle of G5 that I haven't even opened buy I'm anxious to try them both out, but I kind of want to use the rest of my 50 ml bottle of FB30.

Thanks for the review. I was curious about flyby30. I wonder how G5 performs against DP glass coating? Ive had great luck with it.
 
Great review! I have used g5 quite a bit, and love the stuff! The owners of the cars I've applied it to have been very impressed.
One thing that I learned very quickly is that the wiper blades need to be very clean in order to perform well. Not that you'll need them much after application.

I did 1 coat for each, that said I'm going another round but with 3 coats of g5 this time. I used a car pro applicator for the flyby an simple cotton cloths for the g5. Both were extensively prepared but more so the flyby requiring ceriglass polish than a full iso prep.
 
I have to agree with your review. Although I have not tried the Gtechniq I found the Flyby30 doesn't seem to last. I have better luck with Hydro2 on the windows when I do a maintenance wash.

On that topic... how long do you notice protection on the glass from Hydro2?

I feel like it is still going on my glass from a looooong time ago. Didn't seem to last as long on the paint. Could be my imagination...

Has only been on a little over a month. I feel I can get 3 months no problem on my glass. Were as the Flyby30 seemed to be gone in about 2-3wks with the heavy South Florida rain we get.

Did you prep the glass well? Flyby is very durable for me just make sure you polish with ceriglass and do two eraser wipedowns.

Yes sir. Used the ceriglass with eraser wipedowns. Don't forget the rain we get here in florida during the summer is brutal. On the side windows and back glass it lasts pretty good but the windshield doesn't seem to last long and I don't get great water movement until 55mph. That might be due to the angle of the windshield though.

Hmm.... don't think we flamed out... :)

Some tips for using G5, or really any glass coat for that matter. Use a glass polish first to prep areas you are going to be applying the coatings. Glass, when clean, is naturally hydrophobic, so the cleaner can smoother you can get it, the better. Polishing and then wiping with something as simple as an IPA wipe down will do wonders for the final result.

Also, when you are removing the excess product, try to stay away from microfiber towels. They may grab too much of the product off. I stick with plain, lint free paper towels for a final wipe on G5 or G1.

Great tips! I completely agree with the paper towels.

As far as flaming out, maybe not but I will say the presence (Atleast here in the north east) has somewhat been overshadowed by car pro. I love Gtechniq stuff but lately it's all car-pro with new stuff.

Also if you guys are going to really compete I strongly suggest you carry some good MF's. The majority of my car-pro orders are because I love Microfiber madness so Corey always gets my business + they have a direct sale/business account for pros.
 
I think G5 is great..I use it on my car and I never did any extensive prep. I would just give the glass a quick clay and throw on an application. I got a good 4-5months before I noticed that it was time for it to do another coat. it was still beading really well but it had dropped off.
