tranny fluid is lots of detergent and oil

sure the brakleen cleaned the tires :) before it ate em up

and I am sure that the pinesol cleaned the bird pooh off the car :rofl so it worked for him

Ajax or Comet to clean tires (which actually works well)
Cheese Cloth to remove wax
"Simonizing"
News paper for windows (still an effective method)
I know I can think of more but right now I'm drawing a blank lol.

I'm guilty of both of these and still use Ajax/Comet regularly along with Bleche Wite (yes, that's the way it's spelled) by Wesley's and a stiff nylon brush to clean brown tires. Caution is advised here, the Bleche Wite is tough on the lungs and when mixed with the Ajax is pretty nasty. Use in a well vented area. I haven't found anything that will bring white back to a whitewall tire like this combination.

I still use whitewall cleaner on every car I do. I use Car Brite's version, but its basically the same as Westlys. Never saw a reason to change it, but yeah the fumes are pretty stong.

guilty as well, I don't need to use it in a well ventilated area...... I can cover those fumes up with a cigarette

:D I thought I remember those days being behind you.

I wish

With the stress of divorce etc, not gonna happen for a while. THen Jeff gets to take me to dinner. (hope he remembers that post) (I better look for it)

And I wonder how bad the smoke really is with all the asbestos from blowing out brakes, and in my mothers house as well as all the brakleen etc and gun solvents I have breathed all my life

I'm not sure why I was under that impression but thought I remembered reading it. I meant no offense. Be a worthwhile endeavor all the same. Seems to me that since you've survived a divorce you could do just about anything you set your mind to doing. :ra

2 years and it aint over yet, so not officially a survivor yet

And absolutely no offense taken. I really wish I could quit. And you might have read it in the past since I have tried to before

Hello everybody, new here. I saw this thread on my FB page. It interested me so I clicked it and here I am.

Well I used engine degreaser. (OTC), I then followed it with WD-40 lol, I was 10 years old, working at my Dad's body shop, I was the Detailer's side kick he was the manager he asked me if I wanted to go spend summer with him.

Well I detail differently now :)

Murphy's Oil Soap.

Actually a very good vinyl cleaner that leaves a nice, matte finish when buffed. Also works well on leather.

1 teaspoon to pint of warm water.

Use straight for cleaning and treating coated leather.

It also removes wax and will remove some stains from upholstery.

Here's one from the 50's that I bet few have heard of. Wiping down old cars that have faded single stage paint with kerosene to restore shine and hide oxidation.

My dad and I would use Murphy's Oil Soap as our car wash kinda like a wash and wax product. Left a nice shine

Kerosene will never hurt any paint. At one time people would put 1 cup of kerosene in a bucket of water and wash there cars with it . The original rinseless wash.
