No more Speed Channel!!!

Today marks the end of an era in TV. Speed Channel, originally known as Speed Vision, will cease to exist. Early in its life Speed Channel was known for its wide array of motor enthusiast programming ranging from local sprint car races to motorcycle racing to Indycar and NASCAR. Over the years Speed became more focused on NASCAR much to the dismay of viewers looking for more eclectic programming.

FOX Sports 1 (FOX1) will replace Speed Channel. FOX1 will look to carry a wide variety of sports programming to compete directly against ESPN.

Never fear as most of Car Guy Programming will live on. My Classic Car with Dennis Gage and Car Crazy with Barry Meguiar are moving to Velocity. Shows like Truck U and Two Guys Garage will move to the Great American Country Channel, known as GAC.

As FOX expands its brand the channel known as Fuel will cease to exist as well, becoming FOX Sports 2. Should be an interesting year. In related news, SPIKE TV has elected to NOT renew the PowerBlock.

Any thoughts?
 
This sucks, but I find myself watching Velocity like a religion anymore. I wonder if they will pick up the MotoGP programming now that Speed is gone. One can only hope I guess. They already have the WRC and the Isle of Mann TT, so hopefully MotoGP is next.
 
I've also been watching Velocity a lot more. It started with the show "Chasing Classic Cars" and went on from there. Out in So. Cal., it's hard to figure out who is doing more damage Time Warner or Fox. LOL.

I'm hoping somebody picks up WSB and AMA as well. We can only hope...
 
Many years ago, Speed Channel hosted Formula-1 racing and it was so great !

I hate the new format at NBCSports, etc., and I miss Bob Varsha too. He was really a great catalyst for the rest of the guys, and kept the pace moving and interesting.

Like everything that is good, someone has to come along and think they know better, and change it and watch the numbers drop right off the map... Progress???? I think not....

Many years ago? You mean "last season"!!! And for the 17 years prior to that. My cable package doesn't include the NBC sports channel that is now carrying F1 so I download coverage from BBC instead and get coverage from David Couthard, Eddie Irvine and others. Good stuff.
 
I liked speed vision much better than the speed channel maybe this will turn out to be better.

Speed channel was all about red neck stock cars and I don't watch that so for me I'm thinking the change will have to be an improvement. :bigups

Watched the MotoGP races this weekend. While Fox Sports 1 is obviously doing a lot of branding, I thought the coverage was good. I hope they add more diverse coverage of motor sports.
 
I'll have to find out where they are going to air the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge now. I hope I don't have to upgrade my cable package :wall
 
Velocity in my area ( Comcast ) is channel 1242. Got five sets on cable but only the one with a DVR can access that channel. :( . When the wife or grandkids (5) want to use the dvr or watch another channel I'm s***#ed. Can't work out in the shop and see my car related stuff. :( This sucks big time.
