Head Scratcher...

Todd@RUPES

Just a regular guy
You and two friends go into a hotel...

The clerk says it will be 10 dollars a person for the room

You each take out a 10 dollar bill and hand it to the clerk for a total of 30 dollars

The clerk, embarrassed, admits to a mistake. There is a special rate on triple occupancy. It is only 25 dollars for the three of you. The clerk hands you 5 singles back.

Since you and your friends don't know how to split 5 singles evenly you decide to tip the bellhop 2 dollars for helping you bring your luggage to the room and split the remaining 3 dollars evenly.

You each take a dollar back, meaning you each paid 9 dollars for the room.

9 dollars per person for the room x 3 people = 27 dollars
You tipped the bellhop 2 dollars
27 plus 2 =29 dollars

where is the missing dollar?

What is this, Luminosity.com?

This is a detailing site, not a puzzle site!

(I'm only responding this way because I can't do these type of queries - nor my kids homework...LOL)

It shouldn't be multiplied, because both sides of the equation are wrong. If each got a dollar back the cost of the room would be great than $9.00. Something like 9.33333.

There is no missing dollar. the math is wrong (how its stated).:D:D:D

The room is $25 not $30

Its 9 x 3 = 27
27 - 2 = 25

Ok Todd.... what did I win? A Rupes Bigfoot?????

haha todd is using this thread for his homework assignment. So did the teacher give you 100%? any candies??lol

Correct :bigups Or another way to look at it is there is still 25.00 in the register. So three and the two equal 5 and the 25 brings you back to the original 30.

Nice try Todd!! :bigups

Room - $25.00 / 3 = 8.33333333
Return - $1.00 * 3 = $3.00
$9.33333333 * 3 = $28.00
Bellhop = $2.00

Total - $30

Or this: ($30-$2)/3 = 9.3333333

I know that the equation is stated wrong but....

If I paid 10 dollars at the beginning and I got 1 dollar back, then I paid 9 dollars. If my two friends each paid the same then we paid 27 dollars (out of our pockets). Just saying...

You each paid $9. 3x $9= $27 = $25 (room) + $2 (tip). Better now?

What you paid in the beginning is irrelevant.

The bigger question is what were you doing in a cheap hotel with 2 other people?:D

... and were farm animals involved? LOL:D

Seriously, the $9 for each person already includes the $2 tip. Adding the $2 to the $27 you are adding the $2 tip twice. It's a logic problem, think of it this way; the hotel ends up with $25, the bellhop with $2 and the friends with $3; $25+2+3=$30. JMO.

I can't wait to hear the answer to this!! :rofl :rofl :rofl

Only kidding Todd, this group likes to have fun and DC's on point!! :bigups
Your right ,Of course I was just kidding!

Cant envision Todd in some cheap hotel, maybe an expensive one though.:gotcha:
