Claying/polishing with a new car...

This new '12 Edge we bought has a dealer added paint protection on it. The finish is quite rough and I was planning on claying/polishing as I do on all of my cars.

With this paint protection/sealant thing, will claying/polishing cause any issues??
 
Most likely it will strip the protection. I have a client who bought a brand new Pilot and paid $500 for the coating. It beads water like crazy but the dealership did a crappy job at prepping as well, and there is a lot of micro marring and rail dust all over it. After explaining to her that I could fix all of that, but I would have to reapply the coating (I would have used Opticoat), she changed her mind.

Please tell me you didn't pay for that paint protection package; it's 99% guaranteed to be a scam. Just a coat of sealant that may last a couple months at most.

Just treat it like any of your other cars and get the sealant/wax of your choice on it. Forget anything the dealer may have told you.
 
Nah...I didn't pay for it. Well...I suppose I 'paid' for it, but it was already on the car otherwise I would have refused it.

We wanted a '12 Edge Sport and the dealer could only find 3...1 of which worked out. It came from Memphis and already had the coating along with a couple other things.

So it sounds like I'm good to strip the car with Dawn...clay and polish til my heart's content. That's good...I was afraid the coating may be something I couldn't get rid of.
 
As noted, dealer protection coatings tend to be a good mark up to make dealer's money, although some do come with a warranty (which I suppose could prove useful).

Maybe sure to post pictures of the 'writeup'.
