Product Review: Finish Kare #425 Extra Slick Final Body Shine

Introduction:

A quality QD is usually a staple of every "Car Guy". You go to a car show and every one of them will have a bottle to wipe down their car. There are dozens and dozens of options out there. So how do you pick? I know many have a dozen or more in search of the perfect QD that is easy to use and works perfectly all the time. My search lead me to try FK425.

Product Description / Claims:

Finish Kare 425 Extra Slick Final Body Shine is a quick detailer with a sophisticated anti-static, anti-corrosive formula. Spray it on and buff your vehicle to an instant glossy finish that stays cleaner longer. Cut down on time spent washing and waxing. Spend more time in the driver's seat with Finish Kare 425 Extra Slick Final Body Shine.

Finish Kare 425 Extra Slick Final Body Shine works like a conventional quick detail spray by removing dust, fingerprints, and smudges, but it also protects the paint with anti-corrosive agents and UV inhibitors held in place by polymer resins. This additional protection reinforces your existing wax or paint sealant.

Plus, patented anti-static agents reduce the attraction of dust, so your vehicle stays cleaner between washes. The paint will feel unbelievably slick to the touch and it will have a deep, satisfying gloss.

The directions are very simple and straight forward. It is basically that easy but I have found that less is more. Using too much can cause streaking.

Warnings or Precautions:
Harmful if swallowed. If swallowed get medical attention immediately. Avoid eye contact. If eye contact occurs, flush eyes with water for 15 minutes. If irritation persists, seek medical attention. May cause skin irritation.

Testing:

My main use for FK425 is as a drying aid after a wash. For this test I purposefully washes out in the sun to get some minor water spotting to have something to show.

Here we have a clean but water spotted fender.

Here we have my tolls of choice. The #425 in the OEM bottle & sprayer and the Discontinued “Shamrock” MF towel.

I apply 1 sweeping spray on a fender like this.

I spread out the product using almost no pressure on a clean side of my towel.

I then flip to a fresh side of my towel and buff off.

Below are 2 videos I did on other areas to show how #425 works and my technique for application and removal.

Pros:

1. Leaves a slick finish.
2. Nice drying aid.
3. Usually easy to use.

Cons:

1. Over application can cause streaking.

2. I have noticed that humidity also has an effect on the overall ease of use.

Questions:

1. Does it really repel dust?

2. Is there a better drying aid out there?

Final Thought / Summary:

FK425 is one of my favorite QD's and post wash drying aid. It leaves a super slick glossy surface. The smell always has me wanting to spray more than is needed. Although others have reported streaking I have never had any issues. In my opinion it is great for that last final walk around after a maintenance wash.

I tend to be in the "I heart FK425" camp. I love this product, it can be a little finicky, but once you get the hang of it, it is amazing.

Thank's for your review!

A real deal of a QD IMO. You are right on, when you say over application leads to issues, such as streaking and Pseudo halos a little goes a long ways.

I know it works very well repelling dust, have done half the hood and other area only to find the FK425 with a lot less dust.

Cheers,
GREG

This is one of those products I've used for so long I don't remember being without it. A 4 oz pump sprayer that puts out a fine mist works best for me and is more than enough to do a large car or 4 door truck. Get the gallon..:bigups

If you use this as a drying aid, can you apply a sealant like BFWD or Clearseal without jepordizing the "bonding" of the sealant to the paint?

While I cannot speak for every sealant/wax, BLACKFIRE will have no problem bonding on top of FK425.

Thanks for the comments guys.

I have a 4oz pump sprayer for my car on trips and just in case. I'm also on my second gallon. Not a new product to me but I thought it deserved a write-up.

I have applied sealants and waxes after having applied FK425 with no issues.

425 is my "go to" QD and has been for years. It definitely one of my favs !!!

Pat the only other "QD" product I usually use for post wash drying is DG Aquawax. These are my 2 go to products.

Love FK #425 but also just tried Optimum Detail & Gloss Enhancer. IMO works & finishes about the same but costs less. Perhaps the Optimum smells a bit better but I leave that others since my sense of smell is almost non existent. The 425 has a pink color so that works great on light colored paint while the Optimum is a white liquid, which makes it difficult to see on white cars. The #425 is already mixed while the Opti D&G is a concentrate. Both are excellent and worthy but if price is a concern, I would tell you to try the Optimum D&GE product. Honestly, there is no wrong decision here.

Ive been going back and forth which I like better as well, for me the paint stays cleaner with OPT. Its really been put to the test lately with all the tree and grass pollen.

Anyone ever tried Finish Kare Anti Static Poly Wipe Finish Restorer Spray Detailer

I assume this is more of a QD with some cleaners where FK 425 is just a gloss/slickness enhancer.

I totally agree that the FK 425 is a great QD, The 1st time I used it I had my wife give me an opinion, left 1 door of our Tundra without applying FK & instantly she told me "you missed this door". I'm visually imparid so I use her eyes as my personal inspector. lol. She then used the product on that door & said how easy it was to use it. Now she uses it in the kitchen to bring out the shine on many things.
