Time for another weekly installment of "what I did on Saturday". I'm sure most of you have figured out the cars are really just literary vehicles (get it? Ha, I crack myself up sometimes - JK
) for mini product reviews. This week's car was a Polished Metal Metallic 2008 Acura TL. Surprisingly, other than being dirty, it was in excellent shape: no swirls or RIDS. Not sure I've ever had something like it in for detailing. The request was for interior and wax & wax. I did a little extra because it was in such good shape.
Cast (in order of appearance):
Muc-off Performance Wheel Cleaner
Zep Orange Citrus degreaser (4:1 for tires and wheel wells)
(some leftover Duragloss 931 Rinseless Wash with Aquawax in the tire bucket plus Daytona Speedmaster Jr Wheel Brush, GG MF brushes, & grout sponge)
Chemical Guys Citrus Wash & Gloss (foaming and 2 bucket wash, paint prep dilution or close)
3x Grit Guards (2 in rinse bucket)
Bone
Clay substitute sponge
ONR (clay lube dilution)
XMT 360 (GG6 + 6" LC Flat Green & PC + 5" LC CCS Green)
Vacuum
Lexol Leather Cleaner
Megs APC+ 10:1
Dupray Hill Injection
EcoTouch Waterless Wash (wheels)
Wolfgang Deep Gloss Spray Sealant (wheels)
Megs QID
CG Silk Shine (tires)
UWW+ (dust & jambs)
Optimum Car Wax (topper)
Megs D120 Glass Cleaner
No befores because just a dirty version of the afters. Like I previously wrote, no swirls or RIDS. Still haven't figured that one out. Afters:
Now that that is out of the way, on to the mini-reviews.
Muc-off Performance Wheel Cleaner really surprised me. I've used several other of their products in the past and they've all performed well but this one is special. Rinse the wheel, spray it on and let dwell (in my case, long enough to scrub the wheel wells and tires) and lightly agitate. The brake dust just melts away!! Not sure if it was a particularly synergistic match with the Duragloss 931 in the rinse bucket but it was probably the easiest wheels I've done. Have the befores which I didn't post because I somehow forgot the afters.
Pinnacle XMT 360 did an excellent job sprucing up the paint. As no correction was needed, I used it as a pre-wax cleanser (with some correction and sealant). With the green pads, all it took was 2 spreading passes, 2 slow passes and 2 light finishing passes - maybe 1 min total for each 2'x2' section. The product pretty much disappeared. Topped with OCW for a beautifully glossy and wet-looking finish. Was almost magical on this paint.
I never really got on with Lexol Leather Cleaner before but now, with steam, I am really liking it. Spray it on, agitate with a brush, steam it with the triangle head + MF and wipe down. Took all of the ground in dirt and oils off and left that perfect matte finish in about 2 minutes per seat. The leather was also very soft and had that "new" feel.
Thanks for reading. Please feel free to ask any questions.
