A Question for the Gentlemen

I've used a strait blade a couple times, but it takes too long for me and I become inpatient and screw it up.

Once you get the hang of it the double edge safety edge won't slow you down much. If you're using a brush it does take a bit more time but it's not like you have to make plans to do it. I am afraid the straight blade might require more of a commitment time wise.

Thats the part I worry about. Seeing my own blood is not a good thing.
I hear you on that and believe me it does make me hesitate. It's pretty close to the old juggler. That said, no one ever gave me many intelligence points. :)

Well darn, I never thought to look before at it. Turns out it's way older than the 40. The numbers are kind of misleading, but it's anywhere from a 1904-1927 Gillette Single Ring. I'll have to find a way to rid the rest of the tarnish, but it looks like 859257. Even has US Patent Nov 15 1904 engraving on it. I even have the box it came in, doesn't look too good but it's there. Way too cool, to think this is my daily shaver.

Awesome, and congratulations! Try using some Scrubbing Bubbles and then Flitz. That should help you clean up that fine piece of history quite nicely.

Been using my double edge for several months now, and it was definitely a challenge at first, but now it's second nature. I had way too many problems with the Mach series pulling and irritating. Now the case with my double edge.

Yeah, I was surprised to learn that. Despite that, I'll still continue to use it as my daily. The outer finish is pretty much gone, but it's still 100% functional. Thank you for asking me to check, never would have known about it.

There are several places that specialize in reconditioning old razors. They re-nickel plate them and all. This one sounds like it might be worth it. I've seen some of the restored straight blades and they look phenomenal. You certainly could not tell them from new but they still have the antique appeal and value. Only problem is the price follows them.
