I'm going to post this on a detailing site and my Honda sites so some of this will be elementary to the detail guys.... I am so glad I invested in the Harbor Freight jack and stands for all of $90 total and it works great - get two wheels at once.
And the breaker bar from Lowes is a must!
The project here is to detail the wheels, de-ferrous them (my term - more later) and detail the wells themselves. So here are the products I used: Dawn, Stoners tire spray, and Collonite 845 for my 100% certified fake Brembo covers. I might add to this is great time to inspect the well area - I found a snap fit connector on the inner fender that was loose.
So after scrubbing the well and giving it a good coating of tire protectant, spraying the shock with CRC-656, I was ready to put a coat of Collonite on the Brembo cover. Easy to do, the trick with Collonite is to heat it up - comes off much easier:
Next comes a Dawn wash of the wheel, dry and the application of IRON-X - a spray on that dissolves metal and iron particles form the brakes, and where ever it finds iron, it turns purple. You then hose it off.
My wheels were new as of 4 months ago, so it only found major iron/rust on the bolt area and cleaned that off. I like the stuff, I did not use much at all - wipe on, scrub it in and hose off after 5 min.
And last of all, two coats of Ultima to protect the wheel, and no powder to get out of cracks - it's wipe on walk away!
