Review: Chemical Guys Synthetic Quick Detailer

Introduction:

When I started, I used the Klasse twins as my sealants of choice. Those who've tried them know that Klasse High Gloss Sealant Glaze suffers no fools. Misapply it (or, sometimes, apply it correctly) and you will be working hard to remove streaks for a while. I learned that, if you apply it super-thin (if you can see it, it is too thick) and use a QD to remove, there is much less frustration. (Also letting it stay on for more than an hour before removing helps, too.) I originally chose Sonus Acrylic Spritz because it is marketed to work with Klasse and, indeed, does work well. But it is expensive. At that time, CG emphasized the acrylic nature of CG SQD and was half the price of Sonus, so I decided to give it a try.

Thanks to Corey again for providing the format.

"Chemical Guys Synthetic Quick Detailer

Cleans as it shines!
Boosts existing protection.
Can be used in direct sunlight.

Synthetic Quick Detailer is the fastest way to shine your ride delivering a wet shine finish in seconds! Developed with the perfectionist in mind, Synthetic Quick Detailer delivers a fast shine that lasts. The wet look comes from a polymer resin based fluid combined with acrylic wetting agents and lubricants. The anti static formula will reduce static charge and will help get rid of those annoying fingerprints and smudges. Synthetic Quick Detailer takes any wax, polish or sealant to the next level. No wax, no film, no streaking and luckily no effort! Synthetic Quick Detailer is great for all painted surfaces, metal, chrome and even glass!

Synthetic Quick Detailer is formulated utilizing a synthetically derived lubricating agent to reduce static causing surface friction by over 75%. By reducing static caused during surface friction like drying, quick detailing, wax removal and application, synthetic detailer greatly reduces static charge left on surface limiting air born dust deposits by over 50% and greatly reducing the risk of scratching delicate paint surfaces.

Synthetic Quick Detailer features:

The slickest lubricant and detailer available.
A wax and sealant booster that works with all wax, synthetic and acrylic bases.
Formulated from a polymer resins base using wetting agents, and lubricants to give a wet shine and offer a smooth sliding surface for clay
100% wax, alcohol, silicone, and streak free.
Removes dust, restores the shine in one quick spray.
Highly-reflective synthetic shining agents form an ultra-thin protective coat that bond to waxes and synthetic sealants the paint sealant leave the surface slick, silky, and shining.
Designed to perform even in hot, humid climates without streaking, cloudiness or hazy patches.
Synthetic means it works exceptionally well on black and red cars, because unlike most detail sprays one wipe is all you need, no more wipe on wipe off. One quick wipe does it all.
Excellent for use on paint, glass, chrome, gel coat, fiberglass and Plexiglass."

Other Products Used:

Short nap MF

Preparation:

It is a quick detailer so it depends on what you are trying to do with it. I never apply QDs except to freshly washed paint - but that's me.

Application:

As a QD - A couple of spritzes onto paint, wipe with a MF, flip MF and buff to high shine.

Claying - spray on paint, use clay, wipe off.

Observations:

Nice smell. Leaves a glossy, slick finish. Nice lubrosity.

Does it meet its claims, yes - except I'm not sure about about the anti-static/dust-repelling properties (can't say I've really seen this property in any product but I live in the kingdom of dust).

Comparisons:

I like QDs and have (literally) gallons of them. CG SQD is less finicky than Optimum Instant Detailer and Gloss Enhancer but not as wet-looking. CG P40 leaves a bit more gloss, has a different look and is a great drying aide. CG Hybrid V7 is freaking awesome but is really a spray sealant. Dodo Juice Basics of Bling is glossier and slicker. Dodo's Red Mist Tropical Edition is glossier and offers more protection. Einmann Fabric is no longer available but really like it as a drying aide (wish I'd bought more). Pinnacle Crystal Mist smells better. When I got CG SQD, it was about the same price as OTC products like Megs QD (red) and Mothers but CG SQD is superior. I could go on and on.

Was asked about FK 425. One of the few I don't have (but want) and haven't tried. Sorry.

As far as clay lubes go, ONR is as good but way more cost-effective. Same for DP RW&G. And I really like Dodo Juice Born Slippy.

Pros:

1.- Cleans cured KHGSG streaks very well and looks great on it
2.- Cost effective
3.- Pleasant smell
4.- Leaves a slick, glossy finish
5.- No streaking.

Cons:

1.- None I've found.

Final Observations and Summary:

CG SQD is a good QD, works very well for what I bought it for (KHGSG removal) but I can't say it's great. I've tried it on non-Klasse sealed cars and it was eh. Didn't really like it as a drying aide. I didn't list any cons and it really doesn't have any - I just like other products better. I may buy again for my Klasse cars but CG SQD just doesn't light my fire.

Wished I could have written a more positive review of CG SQD but I call 'em like I see 'em.

Comments and questions are encouraged. Thanks for viewing!

I have that qd and it does make the car slick but as far as keep dust and what not off I have yet to see that. But I have a black car so we all know there's no hiding on a black car

Thanks for another great review! Can you really apply it in direct sunlight? What is the glossiest & slickest QD you have?

One of CG's tenets is to be able to detail your car anywhere, anytime. Never have done that, though. Worried as much about me as the car - Texas sun is fierce.

Dodo Juice Basics of Bling. Like the apple smell, too.

Thanks for taking the time to do a honest review. You have probably saved a few people frustration and money.

interesting name. "synthetic"...as opposed to natural?

I believe they were highlighting the acrylic (sealant) nature cf. P40's carnauba (wax). But with CG, you never know. They seem to be on an animal kick now - Goat, Ducky, etc.

BTW - something on their website notes that it can be cut up to 3:1. I haven't tried it yet but think I will mix up a small batch. Just have a funny feeling it might work better that way.

oh i see...that makes sense...natural carnauba vs. synthetic sealant.

I'm sure you've seen their website...it's quite entertaining.

Yes, it is nice to see a review and also wondered about the synthetic.

I sure would like to see some comparison chart between the following:

Luber
Synthetic Detail Spray
Quick Detailer
etc.

Of course, the CG web site is not helpful with the almost total overlap in descriptions.

IME, there is a huge overlap in their products, too. Without the labels, I could hand you Black Light and EZ Creme and, other than (I think) an added slight blueberry scent - same color, same texture, similar scent, great gloss, some cleaning, etc. - they are virtually indistinguishable. I want to think Black Light has greater durability but never tried EZ Creme as an LSP.

Lol -- a chart would be great from these guys, I was going to order some QD in the last order but couldn't figure out which one was best.....Speed Detailer, Synthetic Detailer, or P40 Carnuba Detailer.... so I ended up ordering none of the above.
