Big "A" Detailing 08 Civic Removing Overspray By Hand Compounding on You Tube

The customer spray tinted his tail lights without removing them first. The trunk, driver quarter & rear bumper had heavy overspray. I removed the wing to get to everything.
It was friday night & I had a ton of work lined up for the next day.
This was the quickest way to remove the overspray. I misted water on the surface first & then rubbed in the compound with a micro fiber towel. By hand compounding the entire car I got the paint to about 85% which was the goal for this job. I used Meguiars M205 Polish then 3M Ultrafine Polish with my Dewalt DW849 rotary.
I put on the first coat of Klasse @ 12:14am & let it cure for a half hour then removed it. I laid on another coat of Klasse around 12:45am & left it there & called it a night!
Humberto come in @ 7am to remove the tape & Klasse & get the car ready for an early morning pickup!
We clayed, hand compounded, clayed, hand compounded till the overspray was all off. I cant tell you why it was done this way but it worked =)
I didnt take out the halogens on the whole car, just the areas that had overspray. With the halogens on its easier to see the overspray.

Way to go Andrew :rockon, Was it done in the winter months?
yes 3-31-11 is the date on that little piece of paper. i do that for all the cars that i put together a presentation for. it helps me keep track of things.
if i dont write that stuff down ill have a massive brain fart when putting the work out. :lol2:

i have about 25 presentations from the last 5-6 months ago that i have to release lol. im working on some new material as well so i stay busy!

thanks!

Great work Andrew. It is always interesting to learn how other experienced detailers tackle overspray, from using super high grits of sandpaper (4k-5k), compounding, decon washes, and now "wet compounding".

The Civic looks GREAT! Thanks for sharing and very cool VID!

The overspray from Nightshades spray tint is a mother to remove. I may or may not have oversprayed the fairing on my bike a few weeks ago with it...

thanks todd, whatever gets the job done. :rofl

Nice job, that was a lot of overspray. You would think they would have seen it going all over the car and stopped.

Probably worked in low light, I really wish I had a garage to do work in because it makes a huge difference. Damn good for hand app, using the knuckles was a nice touch

Interesting technique that I havent seen before, glad it works for you, may have to add that to the if I ever file!
