Meguiars Rotary Buffer W-64 Backing Plate, 5 Inches New & Improved!

I bought this new back plate here and it has a raised center peice that Im assuming is for what they call "self centering system"

Does this need special pads for its use?

Can the peice be taken off without harming the backing plate and still be ok with other pads ?Ive tried(gently) but it looks like it needs to man handled and pried off .

I really dont want to have to buy special pads for this plate . If that is the case may I return it ?
heres a pic...

PS.BTW I love my new purple Cobra Super Plush Deluxe COBRA-600DLX-6 towels. I admit I really like my target Vroom towels and only bought these because purple is my fave color :D and a really generous tip !But they are really really nice!!!

It is for use with the rotary pads that have a hole in the center to properly center the pad. If you are using pads that do not have the hole, this isn't the backing plate for you.

What pads are you using?

Thats what I thought,thanks.

My pads do not have the hole. No where on the description does it mention that, at least I didnt see it.

The description is a bit confusing. I would try calling and perhaps they will do an exchange for a BP that suits your needs. Customer service is good here!

I will wait for my buddy Angelo to help me out since he is the one who gave me the link :bonk::D.

Thanks Angelo for the call .:)

Is not a problem at all .My old backing plate works fine and I just wanted a slightly larger more flexible one.

I will have time on Thursday to talk to you or Megan.:bigups

DC,
No, its not for a Flex machine, they are just describing the backing plate.

I think this backing plate looks a lot like the Chemical Guys Evolution Backing Plate that is 4-13/16" in diameter, and is made for a rotary but an adapter could make it work easily on a non Flex PC.. This plate is sold at DI but the same plate is way less at C/G's site, just harder to find..
Good luck ! :)

I have this same backing plate and I use it with the self centering megs wool pads as well as foam pads that do not have the self centering hole and I have never had a problem with it. Also, I am pretty sure that centering button unscrews, however I have not tried it on mine yet. I do know it was removable on the older backing plates.

Thanks guys for the feedback . Looks like Ill go with the flex foam backing plate .

The center peice does not unscrew with mine . The only way to get it off I can see is to pry it off with pliers or the like and risk damaging it.

I really hate doing stuff like that and usually end up hurting myself too .

Just to verify, I went out into the garage today and the center did unscrew, like I thought. I remember one other time in the past trying to unscrew it and it would not come off, but today I went out again and it came right off. Unscrewed on the first try. I just wanted to let you know.
