"Luck" Residue of design
This car was a real joy to work on. From the beautiful paint to the curvacious body lines to the completely serene location, I had a truly peaceful day.
Recently, the owner of this DB9 Googled "mobile auto detailing" and found my Facebook page. After looking around for a while he decided that I seemed knowledgeable enough and seeing some of my previous work he chose me to work on his "garage queen" the 2005 Aston Martin DB9.
I arrived at the client's home at 7:30am to find the DB9 already in the driveway awaiting my arrival. The location was a beautiful mountainous neighborhood with completely unique homes and lots of very nice vehicles. There was wildlife running about all over the place. With all the cover of the trees and the occasional chipmunk, squirrel or white tail deer traveling through it made for a very peaceful day of detailing albeit not the best of lighting conditions for capturing the true paint conditions on this detail.

The owner covered a few concerns with me, opened the door to the inside of the house and showed me where the bathrooms, refrigerator and laundry room (where I could get running water) were and then he left for work leaving the door open.
I unrolled my 75 foot garden hose and took it into the laundry room only to realize that there were different threads on the spigot and that I would have to do an ONR wash. The car is very well cared for and was only slightly dusty so no problem in doing an ONR wash.
Below are a few pictures of the paint condition on the car before I got started.
I was in the middle of doing my ONR wash when I heard breathing behind me. Having not yet turned around I knew it was a dog and thought to myself "Oh No, I hope this isn't a big dog that bites." I turned around to see this big girl who thankfully turned out to be the friendliest of dogs.
She just wanted to see what I was doing and have me pet her for a while so I obliged her.
Then she walked right through the garage and into the customer's house.
She didn't stay in the house for very long and I thought it was strange that the home owner didn't mention that he had a dog so I called him to ask. He said "no Dave, I have no dogs or cats, Is he still in the house?", chuckling I said "no she just did a quick lap of the living room and came right back out." And then she was gone.
After my visitor left I finished doing the ONR wash and toweled the car dry. The owner and I agreed on a price range that would only allow for one polishing step so I figured that I would go with M-205 on a red Poorboy's World 5.5" variable contact pad for use with Flex Polishers and the Flex 3401.
I clayed the car using Meguiar's smooth surface clay bar and a mixture of Poorboy's World Spray & Gloss and ONR as a clay lubricant. Next I ran a piece if 2 inch 3M blue painter's tape down the center of the hood to do some testing with the machine/pad/product that I selected.
Below are a few before pictures of the condition of my test area.
The paint on this Aston Martin was very soft and the M-205/finishing pad/Flex 3401 combo worked very nicely to polish away the swirls and lighter scratches. Below are a few pictures of the paint condition after doing my test section and a nice 50/50 shot.
The owner of this car said it is for sale and that If I could locate a buyer he'd give me a piece of the action but I don't know many people who could afford to buy a car like this one. At least it is looking good for anyone who he shows it to. The interior was immaculate when I showed up and he recently conditioned the leather so all I did to the interior was a quick vacuum of the floor mats.
