Optimum Opti-Coat 2.0 Permanent Paint Coating

Merlin

A Miracle Detailing
Has anyone tried the Optimum Opti-Coat 2.0 Permanent Paint Coating?

Any feedback is appreciated.

The product was just released late last week, so I really doubt it's in many people's hands yet (aside from those who were at Autogeek's DetailFest) but I too am anxious to start seeing some reviews on it since I plan to obtain and use it in the near future.

Yes, I spoke to a couple of folks at Detail Fest that have already been using it. They discussed and demonstrated the proper way to apply it and the fact that unlike wax or sealant it is a PERMANENT coating. They did state that the ONLY way to get Opti-Coat 2.0 off is to polish it off. I ordered some and will give it a try when it arrives.

I got some at DF also. Not sure when I'll use it though. Can't decide on which car to try it on.;)

One bad thing though. When I got back, I opened the box and there were no instructions. Guess I'll have to look for them somewhere.

I'm still here, too if you guys have any Opti Coat 2.0 questions.

I was at the class at the AG Detail Fest I was very impressed with the ease of application and wonderful testimonials from many of the folks.
I just got an AG-UPS confirmation that my Opti-Coat 2.0 order is on its way. (Thank You Meghan!) It really almost sounds "To good to be true".
I'm real excited to apply it and try it out. It looks like I have a bit of "polishing to perfection" ahead of me before the Opti-Coat 2.0 application.

How would you describe the finished look once it has cured? Is it a carnauba or sealant type look? Depth, warmth, shiny, wet, glossy, Saran Wrap?

Can't say definitively. On my silver flake altima it looks just like Opti seal maybe a little more gloss. Made a red 500sl look deeper and actually darker. Did a speed yellow cayman and it didn't look any different than bare paint. Whatever your prep is, it will amp it up with gloss.

Chris,

How much harder is Opti-coat 2.0 than factory OEM clear coat?
I know this is an open question as this may vary from car to car.

I have encountered a few vehicles with very soft clear coat.
Good News: The soft clear coat buffs out the swirls pretty easy.
Bad New: Due to the fact the CC is soft they come back easy.

I wouldn't classify Opti-Coat or CQuartz as sealants. Since they provide both permanent and semi-permanent protection, they would fall into the "Coatings" category. Sealants will typically give you about 6-8 months of actual protection with proper maintenance.

This is just another example of how advanced the car care industry is getting, and it's extremely exciting to say you were around when car care was taken into the next level. Right now it's these resin, or nano coatings, the microfiber correction systems, waterless washes. Who knows what's going to come next.

It's cool to see the technology finally catching up with the promises that dealerships have been making for years. Now they can actually apply a coating that will last a long time. I will be trying both the Opti-Coat 2.0 and the Cquartz soon. Any chance you will be offering them John?

Opti Coat has a hardness of 6-7 when initially applied and that "can" reach 9H when fully cured/dehydrated. Some of this will depend on the surface it is applied to, of course...but diamonds are 9H so...ummm...it's pretty hard.

How would you describe the "shine" and "look" of Opti-coat 2.0 once cured?

Depth
Warmth
Gloss
Slickness
Zaino Z-2 like
"Saran Wrap"

What other LSP products would you compare the Opti-coat 2.0 "shine" and "look" to?
