Definitely a very historic day!!!

Holy cow, man... I NEVER thought I'd see the day where Autopia and DetailCity would be sharing space on the same banner!!! I am pleased to say that I was there for the birth of DetailCity and never once doubted that it would survive whatever was thrown at it. I've taken plenty of my fair share of flack for my affiliation with DetailCity while still trying to work with Autopia, and it hurt me when it came down to having to pick sides. However, several years later and MUCH water under the bridge, I am pleased to see that the 'side' I chose to be on is the one that is still here today being populated by many of the same fine people who were there in the beginning. It has always been an honor to be a part of the growth and history of this site and I hope to see it live on for a very very long time! I know now that both the names of Autopia and DetailCity will always be remembered for amazing car care enthusiasts and outstanding members!

I agree, mainly because DC became my home after a certain someone decided I was no longer welcome at Autopia many years ago, and I'm glad to see that now the twain have met and that certain someone is long, long gone from anything bearing the Autopia name.

Looks like I'm an Autopian once again!

Autopia Carcare is not affiliated with Autopia forums..I know confusing but that's according to the new major.

Does any of the autopia car care products carry the autopia name? If not, you might as well call it Detail City Car Care in parallel. The sooner they break away from .org the better for brand recognition.

Its been my sediments from the start of this new ownership:(

Most recently, Detail City was under Dwayne's personal ownership while he was and is with PBMA. Due to the economic situation in previous years, there wasn't enough sponsorship income to sustain this forum. Without the time or enough sponsor revenue to sustain the forum, it could have been closed.

Having Autopia Car Care step up as the exclusive sponsor of Detail City ensures that it will be funded and funded in a way to ensure the longevity of the forum.

Autopia-CarCare.com will be funding all of the forum giveaways, making forum improvements and most importantly, keep the forum alive.

John, I think the main problem you're seeing right now is that the "Autopia" name has a lot of history attached to it, and quite frankly there are a lot of people who hold a lot of contempt toward it (many of the folks who have been on Detail City for an appreciable amount of time made a mass exodus from the still-existent Autopia.org forum).

I'm sure I'm preaching to the choir here, but what you have ahead of you is a long road of trying to overcome the poor perceptions and, unfortunately, the grudges that many of the folks here seem to still have over the bad things they saw happen on the "other" Autopia and/or their beliefs of what the Autopia-carcare site and brand represented in the past. There are some who feel that abandoning the Autopia name is the best and only way to do this, however the cachet of the Autopia brand on a grander scale is probably what PBMA/Max saw and wanted to capitalize on with this merger/acquisition. That said, I do notice that the DetailCity.com "store" is still around from the Troy Armstrong era of ownership here, though it is sitting idle. One can't help but wonder if there would be any value in utilizing it.

To those who are down on "Autopia," I can absolutely understand why. I too was contemptuous toward "Autopia" for a long time, while it was under the ownership of its founder(s), but I realized that it was them and their assembled team of "henchmen" who were the problem, not the name or the brand. I see no sense in continuing to be negative about the name/brand at this point since it is under new ownership and a different style of management is being employed. We owe it to the new crew to give them a fair shot before passing judgment.

I think you said it best here!

Very well said.

I have studied the history of these sites and I believe that the best era is yet to come. I'm not just saying that, I really mean it and will work hard to make this forum fun, educational and positive.

I will say that I'm one of the members that Jngrbrdman described in his post. I wasn't booted, I didn't have words with Autopia Staff, I just got tired of the attitude that was so wide spread among the members at the time. I've still checked in on them over the years and much of the attitude I perceived at the time has shifted. That said, I came here and have never had reason to leave. I do believe that even though there is zero association between the two Autopia's, the name still puts a lump is some people's throats and it's just difficult to swallow.

All this said, I've never had cause to shop Autopia Car-Care. Truth is, most people don't have much need to look beyond PBMA's (AutoGeek) product offering. From what I can see the product lines at AG and here are very similar. I'll just make the shift now that I have a reason to do so. I think many of our members will have to do a little "snap to" when placing their orders in the near future to do the same thing. As has been suggested it might be neat if ACC picks up on a line (CG or equivalent) that AG doesn't currently sell. That would certainly be a reason for some to shift gears.
