Tape Residue Removal

Howdy Ya'll! been a long time since I've been on the board. Health issues + work travel have kept me from detailing. Anyway, I got a problem and thought ya'll would have a solution.

The wife's Mazda CX-7 has a roof trim piece that broke loose. I finally got the part in and replaced. In the meantime, I had to use clear packing tape to hold it down. Now that it is repaired i have tape residue on the roof paint. I have not tried anything to remove it. I thought I would post here for suggestions first.

I have PB APC, Bug Squash, Pro-Polish and some Meg's Body Solvent. These are the things that came to mind to try.

Thanks!

I'd hit it with the body solvent first, but any of those you listed would probably do the trick.

I agree ... you would dampen a cotton cloth with the solvent and dab the tape to soften and rub gently .. I'd follow with Pro Polish to remove any leftovers and solvents while bringing back the gloss of the paint.

Yea, any of those products that you mentioned will probably work. However, If for some reason none of those work and you need something a little stronger, you could try mineral spirits or even WD-40 which are usually readily available. You always want to try it in a small inconspicuous spot first to make sure it does not hurt the paint, but of all the times I have used those two on paint, I have not had a problem.

Try 3M's # 08984 General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner with a Mini Scraper with plastic razor blade from Ace Hardware part number 1380971

I agree while the above products will probably work since I have the 3M on hand that is what I would use,
This is what it was made for and the best results will come from using a product that was made for the job at hand.
