Blue or Red, which way to go? And other questions.

Hello everyone,

Currently seeking some advise for my new ride, a 2007 VW Rabbit (black). The options/recommendations out there have me confused! :hmmm:

First, a little about my current supplies, then on to the questions. I have a Porter Cable, and use it regularly but i desperately need new pads. I also have PB SSR1, SSR2 and SSR2.5 (all though the bottles are several year old (at least 3) at this point in time. I also have a small 'tub' of Pinnacle Souveran. Beyond this the rest of my supplies are all over the counter supplies, Meguiars professional 3 step line (tan bottles), Stoners glass cleaner... etc.

The ride is not in bad shape at all. These were taken after a recent detail with OTC products:

Questions:
Since the new car is black, and I have done some reading, I was planning on picking up some new products.

Natty's Blue or Red? What is the main difference between the two? Everybody seems to be crawling over one another to purchase the red. But why? I am thoroughly lost on this decision...

Also, I plan on picking up a bottle of Black Hole. No questions there. :rockon

What about the Poorboy's wheel sealant? These german brakes are killing me with how dirty they make my wheels after just 1 week. :wall

I have 1 of each of the PB curved edge detailing pads (2 Yellow, 1 orange, 1 black, 1 white, 1 blue). But the pads have seen better days and I would like to replace them. Should I make the switch over to the waffle weave, 6.5" CS Pads, pads? I have always heard great things about them. Any suggestions on abrasiveness of the pads for the german black paint? I'd like to try and not buy 1 of each...

Love the VW Rabbit. Drove one in the 80's!

A big yes to the wheel sealant. It is a great product. IMO I would go with Natty's Blue on the black, but I know others will recommend Red. Both will look great. That being said, you might want to consider going with PB Polish with Sealant or Exp.

Since you have the Souveran why not use that? Great product that will look super on the black. Protection may not last as long as Natty's B/R but since you already have it and it makes black deep and wet, I ay go for it!
 
I plan on finishing off the pinnacle wax. My only issue with it is that the protection doesn't seem to last longer than a month for me since my car is outside 24/7. Also, I only have 1 maybe 2 more times I can use it before I am completely out. So I thought I would order the blue or red with my new pads before I run out. ;)

Ah, good thinking.
 
My take on red vs. blue is that the blue has a bit of a warmer look to it and it actually helps to hide some very minor defects. The red is more of a wet and very glossy look, kind of like what a sealant looks like.

The red is a harder wax and is very nice to work with where the blue is a bit softer and seems to crumble a bit for me. I think if I were working out of the 32 ounce size blue this crumbling would not occur so when this 8 ounce tub is gone I really hope there is a 32 ounce size available for purchase.

Both are very nice waxes and I would choose blue for black every time. I wouldn't expect the longevity to be much more than what you have now though.

I would go for the variable contact pads that Poorboy's is carrying, IMO they are the best pads out there.
 
After some debate and thought Nattys Blue, PB Black Hole and a foam gun have been purchased for the black car. Thanks for all the input, much much appreciated!!! :D

Hey Thomas...fancy seeing you here. Welcome to DC...the best detailing sight on the planet. Nice ride man!! And black...boy are you in for some fun!:wall

Good choice on the Natty's blue and the black hole. That's what I use on my black Mariner and I think you've seen pics of it before...shiny, shiny!!

Is the Rabbit Jet Black or Metallic. I had the Black Magic MKV GTI and it looks great over the Pinnacle Swirl Remover Kit and Liquid Souveran.
