I was talking with MrClean last week, crying on his shoulder and telling him of my health related woes over the past couple of years. Don't get me wrong things could always be worse but haven't seemed to be turning in a favorable direction for me in a while.
Last week I was using a 4 wheeler to remove snow from my driveways, it was over a foot deep. I hooked the plow blade on the curb while moving at a pretty fair clip and stopped the Honda dead in its tracks. Unfortunately I didn't stop moving forward (they tell me that's how inertia works) and drove my knee into the front fender. The top part of my leg rode up and over the lower part of my leg. My chest hit the handle bars while my hands were still on the grips and I further injured my already poor shoulder. This really hurt and I leaned on the handle bars for 10 minutes unable to move.
I've limped around for the past week (not unusual for me) and finally gave the Dr. a call. He had me come in, they took some films and he gave me a good look. The Dr. told me what I experienced is called jumping the post on the prosthesis. There is a post in the center of the prosthesis that provides stability and replaces the ACL & PCL of the natural knee.
Of the 4 major ligaments in a knee that only leaves me with an LCL & MCL in my leg. In short, I tore my medial collateral ligament, it's on the inside of my knee closest to the opposite leg.
He said this will likely lead to ligament reconstruction in my knee. With a little pleading from me he decided to wait a bit to see if this is perhaps a minor tear rather than major tear and to give it a while to try to heal on it's own. The joint is now quite loose.
He gave me the option of wearing a cast or 3/4 length metal hinged brace (which I chose). Hopefully 6 weeks from now I won't be having yet another knee surgery.
I haven't been feeling real well recently (cold does that to arthritis) but had managed to do a couple of details in the warm garage. It's been a while since I've done some serious detailing. I had quite enjoyed getting back to it. What can I say? I had just had this knee replaced for the second time in a year over the Christmas holiday last year. I swear someone moved the curb. I've been plowing here for 4 years and know where they are.
Can't win for losing.
