Where do you get your MF's???????

This subject has my head spining more than any other. There are TONS of options so I've given up trying to chose!!!

I need MF's for polish and wax removal. I'd prefer MF's with a short nap on one side and a longer nap on the other. Preferably, I'm looking to buy in bulk (maybe 20 + or so) but that's not a necessity.

What's everyone using lately?

I quit trying to decide!

Thanks!!!!!!!

I buy in bulk from Sams Club. Regardless of what folks say, I think they are good MF's. I'd rather buy those, than the ones that people brag about all the time. The ones that cost $40 each and they ship them from overseas, and some king had touched them.. (ok, I added a little in there.)

If you want to support the site, I recommend buying from Troy. Detail City - Auto Detailing Supplies, Car Care Products & Automotive Accessories

I sent you a PM.

The cheap micros from costco/bj's/ etc are junk. Sorry to disagree with you.

They have tags sewn on, a lousy border, and some of them are bordered with a fishing line type thread. All of these add up to some nice marring/scratches.

I've got tons of em, they wash up terrible. They have now been relegated to inside vehicle and as they get older I wipe the tire dressing off the tires and throw em out.

IMHO

Good microfiber is a MUST!

IN a nut shell this is what I have discovered. Having come from a white car to a black car that shows everything I have become an expert.

First, price is not the deciding factor although it is a guide. Use a blank computer CD. If the MF does not scratch that surface it most likley will not scratch your car. (From my personal experience)

The bargan MF from Target and BJ's are OK for certian jobs like jam's, exhaust and non paint jobs. The edge on these inexpensive is sometimes sewn with fishing line that can scratch the [paint. Do the CD test!

The plush one's are more money and in my opinion are softer and easier on the paint. My preference is between Poorboys brand (No Label-Good thing!) and AutoSpa (Be careful with the label on these) are botrh very good.

You get what you pay for but I think that spending over 5.99/Cloth is unnecessary.

Most importantly as you start to get into detailing as a hoby do not buy too much of anything. I thought that MF were MF. I now have a lifetime supply of MF I will not use on my car b/c of the fishing line issue. Go slow, and learn and ask. Attend as many detailing get togethers as you can. learning from experienced people is the fastest way through the learning curve!

The ones from Sams do not have tags sewn on them, at least the ones at my Sams do not. It also seems that they had gotten a make-over. They are a lot plusher than the ones I bought a few years ago.

I buy my polish/wax towels from another site. Very plush.

I agree good MF is a must. I have several different types from various jobs. I use the Sams mainly for interior, motor, and jams. When I do my wholesale work, I refuse to use my good MFs on the cars. I will use the Sams MF's for wax removal. (Ones dedicated for that purpose only) I have yet to see the towels scratch the surface.
To each his own though.
I was just giving the OP a suggestion on where to buy in bulk.;)

Man I am so glad I started off at ground zero right here. There is a wealth of information here and it is all connected to a discount retailer that is customer friendly and carries the proper materials to get things done right.

I wish I learned that from the beginning.... Too bad I still haven't learned.

The Vroom towels at Target are comparable to some of "the king touched" ones that I have. Currently, the best MF towels that I have are the Turtle Wax Ice plush towels I got from Wal-Mart some time back. Just my personal opinion, but they are as nice or nicer than ones I have payed more for.

Ditto, I have some of the Vroom towels as well and they perform very nicely, if not nicer than some of the more expensive ones I have/have tried. I just cannot justify spending $15 or more on one MF.

But, I guess when you do more wholesale work, you get my kind of mindset. I don't use anything expensive on wholesale accounts.

how are the cheaper ones on windows, ones with fishing lines?will they clean good?i hate doing windows

I use a heapie cheapie wet with stoners invisible glass to clean the window. I wipe it out with a suede type MF and it works for me. I recently picked up a window thingie to get into the corners I cannot get my hand into. Windshield Wonder or stoners make them.

I agree I bought a package of 2 just to try and found them to be equal to towels that cost me 10 bucks a piece.
I got mine from Meijer's and they were $4.99 for 2 but when I went back to get more they were on sale buy 1 package of 2 for 4.99 and get another package for half price.

I have some ultra plush from Pak Shack that are outstanding but unfortunately they are no longer available.

If I were you I would buy 2 towels from different places and decide what you like while cheap some times means junk but just because they are 10 bucks each is no guarantee that they are any better than one that cost 5 bucks

I would say you get what you pay for in the mf towel dept. I have some cheaper ones and they turn into general purpose wipe all's fast. The cost is somewhat more for the quality ones here but they last and last and do a nice job.:howdy

Cheap ones for wheels, tires and interior at walamrt or auto store. Ones that touch the paint I get from RagShack.com

Man as a newby with a 12 grand in black paint to bow down to now, this information and opinion database is invaluable.

For me personnaly, I will buy my stuff through the Detail City store. It seems the best choice for me personally to try to pay back some of the great assistance I get from this site. I seem to find that the words cheap and economical have nothing to do with one another. Some guys have great luck and can eye a super bargain. Me not so much. I tend to hover at the mid high price point then go from there.

I have a sign in my office. It reads:

1. Speed
2. Quality
3. Price

Please feel free to select any two items.

you are absolutely right ... :bigups

We are going to a Street Rod Show this weekend where the paint jobs can be from 20-80K and they know the difference between my microfiber and Wally World ... as it was stated earlier ... you will get what you pay for in microfiber, but i do have to agree that the is no need to spend more than $5-6 for a quality towel ;)

we have some specials running now on our mf only site Ultra Finish Microfiber (Powered by CubeCart) ...well at least until i find time to update :wall
