Opinons needed: Volvo XC90

COME AT ME BRO
My wife has ran across a Volvo AC90 T6 AWD in town. She has recently been telling me she was ready to get rid of the 4Runner due to it's truck-like ride. We both went and looked at the car tonight, and it seems like a nice vehicle.

Does anyone have any first hand experience with owning one of these?

And if anyone is looking for a nice 4Runner for sale I know a guy....

They seem to think it's a pretty decent vehicle, but not necessarily the best in it's class.

Just out of curiosity, why do you need AWD in Alabama?

We don't really, this one just happens to be AWD. Thanks for the link Mr. W.
 
I looked at that car when looking for trucks for my wife. I had owned a 95 850 Turbo I really liked. What I found was the after reading alot at edmunds and the Volvo forum there was an issue with tires prematurly weariing in an odd pattern, something to due with a camber issue and that the brakes were a quick replacement along with warping rotors.

These could be issues caused by how one drives, but there are alot of the same complaints. Read the edmunds boards under mechanical issues.

I looked at thwe Acadia and MDX as well. We settles on an MDX Sport/Entertainment. Love the car. Technology is very user friendly, rides like a car. It is very thiristy! We have less that 1500 on the clock and get 14-17 avg. She does mostly in town driving. I am told this will improve somewhat after 3-5K. This truck replaced a QX4 we loved (and still own) and the MDX rides 1000% better.
 
My sister went from a Toyota Avalon to a Volvo S40 a couple years back and couldn't stand it. Said it drove like a tank compared to the Toyota. It also felt sluggish to her.

That's as close to personal experience as I get other than detailing them. They aren't too bad to detail.
 
Thanks for the replies - the Acura MDX is another car in the possible mix as well, it's just that she is real proud for finding this XC90 on her own. When I drove it last night, I could tell it did not have the get up and go that the 4Runner has, however that might be negated at top end with the turbos. i don't know. She likes the Acadia also, but I am not to keen on supporting GM right now.
 
JP, since you are a Toyota guy how about the Lexus RX? Be sure to closely check the maintenance costs Volvo's need frequent services like most other European brands. Not that the XC90 is a poor buy by any means.
 
JP, though I have no knowledge of the XC90 other than sticking my head in one or two at the dealership, I can tell you that our '96 850 GLT (185k)has been one of the best ownership (and dealership)experiences in memory. From the original purchase to the service (I've basically had the same service writer since the day we bought it).

One of the local car talk show guys praised the XC90 some years back (don't remember the year).

I think we both know that if she drives it and likes it, it can be the "right" vehicle. :D
 
I think she has kind of worked this one out of her system. Apparently, she went and looked at a new Highlander and was really taken by the car like ride and interior. Of course, she wants the Limited.... I told her it would drive like a car since it is a Camry with another set of clothes on.

She doesn't consider SUV's "trucks."
 
I seriously looked at the XC90 but it didn't have very good gas mileage for the cost and the reviews also had me thinking ... I know a few people with the Arcadia and they love it, for the same money I'd rather have a Hoe and there are great deals on them out there ... I also looked at the Highlander for my mother and we couldn't justify the cost of the Limited as a blown up Camry ...Don't blow off GM .. we all own it :rofl ... the faster they get back on their feet the faster we get our money back :D

Who is this "we" you speak of, and why do they have my money? :D
 
Since you now seem to be "Playing the field".
Since you seem to like Toyotas.
What about the RAV4?
I know one woman that loves hers.
My daughter and granddaughter both have CR-Vs which are a comparable vehicle and they both really like them.
The compact SUVs seem to be easy to park and drive and still have enough room for most light hauling.

those are both good and reliable Charles, but if I were to do some mind reading :idea ... my wife when we had the kids said the bigger the better to protect the kids in case of an accident ...gas mileage wasn't going to be an issue as we were ready to trade safety for a few mpg ...besides all the junk you have to carry when you go anywhere:surrender:passout:

FWIW - I like the XC 90. I'm not sure of the reliability, but it's one of the best looking out there.

I'm not a fan of the Rav or CRV. But the CRV is very reliable. I have a couple of friends who got he RAV, and after a few months were dissapointed in it. But still it looks like a good choice for my son.
 
My in laws have an Arcadia and I have driven it a few time it's VERY VERY VERY nice.. but the Saturn is just at nice...

Just pick your posion I like my subaru and it's held up it's value agaist my s/o's equinox
which is a year newer and was 7 grand more to start..
 
Are all of the Subarus powered by the Boxer power plant? In theory that sounds like a very durable, trouble free engine. We have looked at the Foresters on and off for years. My primary issue is that there are not a lot of dealership options in this area.
