My initial thoughts on the Flex DA

I have both and Im with Troy I cant see why anybody wouldnt like the Flex its faster, smoother, quieter and it just feels better, oh it just works better also. I would reccomend it to someone just doing their own vehicles or to the professional detailer alike. I wouldnt trade mine for anything else on the market.:dcrules
 
I was just talking to Chuck (coastal eddie) yesterday about the FLEX. I was telling him that I haven't even touched my Porter Cable or rotary in over 3 months. Don't see any reason to use them much in the future either unless I'm showing how to use one.

I experimented with using a purple foamed wool pad to apply my LSP (UPP) yesterday and it worked great. It left no marring, made the buffer super easy to control and did a great job of spreading it super thin.

Sheila helped me yesterday and she has never used a rotary or a FLEX. I wanted her to try it so I thought the foamed wool pad would make it easier for her. She did the whole car (Dodge Durango) all by herself just like a pro.:love:

If you haven't tried that pad yet, I recommend getting one. You might find yourself using it more than your foam pads.

I've been putting off purchasing the PFW - as soon as I can decide what else I need to get I'll probably be placing an order.

You don't happen to sell an intercooler for the Flex do you? :D

I don't know what took me so long to finally order one of those babies, but it will be thrown into the mix immediately, and I'm sure we will do our best to burn it up the first week!! I do remember some bad info I got re: 6.5 pads not fitting on their backing plate, and it turns out that was bogus.

Interesting, and a very good idea that you used that wool pad to apply your LSP. I'm sure that made things go faster. That pad looks versatile, and it will be cool if they stand up over time.

Mine gets hot enough to fry an egg on within 10 minutes or so. No response from two "contact us" inquiries on the powerhouse distributing website. I finally just gave up, and if it quits I'll use the warranty to have it replaced or fixed (I hope).

srsly though - that much better than a PC?? (oh ps is there a discount code for autogeek?)

Seriously, the Flex is that much better. Call Troy and he will hook you up. You get an old timer's discount too.
 
Here's my thoughts on it - I've had a PC for years, bought a Makita rotary and just didn't like all the taping, covering, cleaning up the splatter that you can get sometimes with a rotary. I sold it and bought a Flex, couple years later - I use my PC more than the Flex, now - before you say WTF! I use that KBM method and with the PC, it just feels a little better and easier to handle. If the Flex had a switch like the Makita BO6040 where you could turn off the forced rotation, and a backing plate set-up like a PC where you could just screw in any size backing plate - THEN, you would have something!
 
To each their own.

To me, the FLEX is the best of both worlds. If you want to keep driving that Camry and leave your Ferrari in the garage then that's your business.:D
 
Get a flex and use the PC with the 4" pads, its the best of both worlds. I have done things with the flex that you couldnt do with the same pad/product with the PC. The P|C still has a place it just doesnt do the same job, and the Flex is so smooth you wouldnt believe the difference.
