"Luck" Residue of design
This car belongs to my newest client. He asked me to do a spot and let him know what could be done with it. I am suggesting that

he stop now and consider having it painted. I did the test on the trunk lid and it is a deffinate case of clearcoat failure. The

test was done as follows: cut with wool pad and a liquid sandpaper type compound, Polish with PB SSR 2.5 on an Edge green medium

cutting foam pad, Finish polish with PB old style SSR 1 on an Edge white finish pad and the LSP was Megs #21 Synthetic Sealant.

After a 2 1/2 hour wash with a very strong solution of OTC APC and Dawn mixed together.

I think it looks great compared to what you started with. If he really wants to keep the car; then a paint job would be in order. Too bad he'll have to spend that much on paint when he could have prevented it with some regular maintenance.

I take it Dave that car sat under trees. It looked so much better though, i hate to see neglect like that.Looks like the half trunk shot came out good.

Sacrilage !!!!!! No car should be treated like that, especially a BMW.

You did a heck of a job on the clean up though.

That's ashame it has been neglected for so long. There is nothing like an old original German paintjob. Well Dave you took the time to show him now he just needs the car painted and have you do the regular detailing of it!:)

What APC did you use. I have to buddies car tomorrow that looks similar.
He knows it's a mess but I want to give it shot and see if I can tackle the mess.

I don't know what it was called, I bought it at family dollar and it was yellow and in a two quart bottle.

Never thought washing could be more work then polishing. There looks like there is clear left. but I'm just going off the pics. :inspector: The area you compounded and polished looks great! I would let him know that there may be some clearcoat failure, and he may need to paint. I would still recommend cleaning, compounding, polishing, protecting. See what it looks like, 150 bucks worth of work could save him lots of money. And if it's not perfect, he may be able to live with it, or then decide to spent a few grand on a nice paint job.

PS. nice wash job!

thanks for the reply and compliment but at $30 per hour it would cost him more like $750 and the photo of the trunk really does'nt show the cracks that are still in the clearcoat. if he would insist on having it done anyway well then I guess I would do it for him but I sure would'nt want people to look at it and think "so this is what Tuscarora Dave's work looks like". I offered to clean it up and prep it for paint but he has not gotten back with me yet.

I hear ya Dave, Sometimes pictures could be deceiving! 750 just for paint correction steps?

I have to start charging more :wall
