i will be placing an order soon. I am intrested in the flex, along with a few polishes that i have not yet tried.

I looking to try Menzerna and Optimum products.

any recomendations on choice of polishes?

SIP, 106fa, either 87 or 85, I have not tried but want to try 203
I have never used Opt polishes yet

I like Meg's 105, 205 is okay - nothing that really stood out versus other polishes I've used. PO1066FF I like a lot from the Menzerna line. Poorboy's SSR line is good stuff also, and he just reworked/reformulated SSR1 & 2. I've also sampled the Opitma line of polishes - again, nothing that really jumped up and screamed "this is a superior polish."

PO1066FF is that the nano polish?
have you tried the 85RD? would this be better to finish with on black?

I am wondering how the flex and some sip would do on a polishing pad. vs. pc with say 2.5 and polishing pad.

trying to speed up my process on bad swirls.

what pad do you use?

I hated my experience with Optimum but many good detailers I know really like it, so it's just a preference I guess... Menzerna makes great polishes, but M105 really is a great great polish that's changed a lot of things... it finishes down very well and cuts fairly aggressively, and as long as you don't work it too hard and cut too much paint, you'll love it.

I would suggest going with M105, SIP, 105fa, and FPII or 85rd.

Oh and color doesn't matter when it comes to finishing polishes being compared, it's the hardness of the paint... 85rd and/or FPII are two very fine finishing polishes that will finish down great on the softest paints.

EDIT: As for pads, 5.5-6.5" pads are great (if you 'fix' the Flex backing plate to fit 5.5" pads) and you should get at least 1 of each black, white, orange and PFW LC pads and also a 8006 and 9006 pad from Meg's.

M105, M205, SIP, 106fa, 85rd, honestly you can not have too many polishes, you never know what will work best that particular day on that particular paint

you are right about having to many polishes. Although for some reason I find myself detail mostly older cars about 5 or more years old. so mild and fine polishes just don't cut it. I used my dewalt twice, and had to clean up some mess with my PC. I need alot more practice before attempting a customers car w rotary.

Is there a poll on how many people use certain polishes. Maybe I'll just go off of that I have to order PB's 2.5 because this polish has worked well for me.

Meguires has also treated me nice over the years, even back when i use to do everything by hand. So maybe i owe it to try 105, 205 combo. Do these polishes dust at all? are they differ from say DACP #80 #82? other then not having diminishing abrasives.

I also hear so many good things about the menzerna line, it makes me wonder if i'm missing anything!

I have not used that many different polishes but I found M105/M205 the most predictable. They do not break down like other polishes. For M105, you just make a few passes and you are done. I found they worked best with Meg's 2.0 pads or similar size non-CCS flat pads.

I think the 2.0 pads are 7-in. I think the key for the new 105/205 is larger flat pads otherwise you have you have to work a smaller area and they break down faster.

I have always like flat pads, although I had a beveled soft finishing pad that i used till death.

ok this maybe a little off topic, but not really it's still polish.

Has anyone used the new PB's SSR2 and SSR1?

do they compare to menzerna PO106FA, or 85RD?

I have noticed that weird things are happening, or manufactures are getting board. Megs fray from there diminishing abrasives with the 105, 205 combo, PB's goes nano or micro. whats the scoop?

I think I'm going to pick up some PB"s do a few cars, then pick up the flex and some menzerna. What do you guys think?

do meguiars 105, 205, dust at all? can you polish on a warm surface? or should it be cool to the touch?

could the compound be used witha pc? light cut and polishing pad? if so is there any marring left? how much compared to dacp?

sorry for all the questions.

M105 can dust a little if you over work. M105 works quickly -- just a few passes depending on polish amount and area. It seems to finish nicely if you just stop just before it seems to dry up.

Hi, first time posting. Is what you said true even when using a PC? I ask because I have been getting some dusting using my PC. I guess I'm overworking it then.

You just have to try a few to see what you like. I notice that the more aggressive polishes chalk up at times but when I use my finishing polishes they don't dust and seem to go much further.

I have used the new SSR 1 and feel that it is a really nice polish to work with. The stuff will work longer than most polishes that I have tried and the outcome is very very shiney. It has a decent smell too.

Welcome to DC.

A lot of dusting? If so you might be using too much or trying to do too big of an area.

You buff 105 and 205 pretty much the same as you do any other polish. What's so nice about them though is they cut the same throughout the step. Most polishes do their cutting in the first couple of passes the rest of the step is spent breaking down the polish.

This makes these polishes not only extremely effective but also very user friendly.
