Cringe in terror: My old wash/detail routine

For the past 8-10 years or so, this has been my washing and detailing routine. I always thought I was doing great, especially compared to the general consumers (dish soap and rags). That was until I decided I wanted to do a better job, and started research here and on other forums. Just thought I'd share it, so you can see where I'm coming from, and where I'm going. Go ahead... make fun, chastise me, throw stones. :notme:
  • Wheels with Meg's Hot Rims and ratty unknown material brushes
  • Wash with Meg's Gold Class, ratty sheepskin mitt, and George Foreman's Knock Out Wheel Bug & Grime cleaner for tough spots (really...)
  • Dry with a California Water Blade or a ratty Chamois with Eagle One Wax As You Drive
  • Windows with Eagle One 20/20 and paper towels
  • Tire and black plastic dressed with Black Again and an Eagle One applicator sponge
  • Interior done with Swiffer pads, central vacuum, and Lexol wipes (leather or vinyl)
  • Maintenance with a California Duster and Meg's Quik Detailer and generic MF towels
That's it. No paint correction. No protection other than the WAYD. Bad techniques and all. Bwahahahaha! :lmfao

Hey... think about the 90% of the cars on the road today that have not seen so much as a Turtle Wax job. Guess we're doin' ok. :)
 
That routine actually sounds pretty reasonable to be honest. I bet most detailers would be happy if their customers would put that much effort in.
 
I think the worse parts about my old routine was the Hot Rims (pure acid!!!) and the ratty tools. :notme:

By the way, anyone want a 3-pack of Hot Rims brand new and unopened?

Hang around here for a while and you will find yourself doing things that will have people giving you that funny look like when they see me drying my car with a leaf blower or while waiting on the wife at the mall I"m QD'ing my car in the parking lot.
Gotta keep that dust off you know. :passout:
 
Using swiffer sheeets on the interior. That's a new one on me.:lol:

Good to see another one crossing over from the dark side.:bigups

I use Swiffers as well. They do a great job.

DM - I wouldn't get too trapped in the thought that just because you picked up tolls and products locally that it's junk. I can probably do a detail on two cars - one using completely OTC stuff from WM and the other using boutique stuff from online - and no one on any detailing site could tell the difference between the two. Once you get some of the correction processes down, you'll be flying along.

I'll have to admit I use swifter's also. :)
I agree with JP last year I used NXT 2.0 on my show car and I have a bunch of trophies that testifies that it done OK especially on Black
