Anyone familiar with the Killeen, Texas area?

I've got a job opportunity that is providing relocation that could get me back to my beloved Texas at last. I moved up to this God forsaken winter Hell eleven years ago and have been trying to get back to my wonderful humid hot Texas ever since. However, I'm not familiar with much of the area south of Dallas. The job would be actually in Harker Heights, but that is a burb of Killeen anyway, so I was just wondering if anyone was familiar with the area that wouldn't mind me picking their brain a bit. Let me know if anyone wants to chat. :) [email protected]

Kirk is not only from Killeen, he actually lives in Harker Heights.
Being somewhat of a grumpy sort, he might not give you any information, but you could at least try. :D

:rofl:rofl:lol2::lmfao:lol2::rofl:lol2::rofl:lol2: I almost peed in my pants :rofl

I think that Chris is from that way also

I was gonna say Chris as well. I know he moved but he lived there for a long time I believe.

I hope you get your wish Anthony, we need another Texan on here.:passout:

:gotcha: Just messin with all you texans. :yourrock

It is an armpit, wanna-be thug infested, drug ridden, filthy place. Killeen that is. I lived there 7 years and was robbed twice. The town song is the police siren. The tree is the marijuana plant.

Move anywhere but Killeen. Every time I drive there, which is a few times a week, I get sick to my stomach. I alway say, damn, I used to live in this melting pot of crime?

There needs to be a selling point. Let's see if I can rewrite some of this to make it sound appealling.

How's this: "Killeen is a place where young, urban adults with pharmaceutical interests can find fixer uppers in the neighborhood. There is strong sense of community and people sing the praises of the local police. The area is also known for its gardening and agricultural benefits." :rofl

Now that sounds better.

LOL. Nice one. Seriously. I would look into living in Harker Heights. They at least have sense there. They also have 2 sides of town, where Killeen is all mixed in.
But if you like people coming up to you at stop lights, knocking on your windows for money, then Killeen is the right place to live. Nothing but beggers and bums. A lot of crime.

There used to be a website up that showed all of the crime on a map. It was color coded for the type of crime, like pins on a map. I know tha local police department had a map in the station with it. I'll see if I can find it...

For Troy's amusement, let's change this to a subliminal post :D

LOL. Nice one(are you kidding). Seriously(are you out of your mind). I would look into living in Harker Heights(some place else). They at least have sense(Kirk) there. They also have 2 sides of town(bad and worse), where Killeen is all mixed in(worse and worser).
But if you like people coming up to you at stop lights(friendly soles looking for a friend), knocking on your windows for money(asking for a charitable donation), then Killeen is the right place to live(all the abuse in one place). Nothing but beggars(not well off people) and bums(unfortunates who have lost their income). A lot of crime(people sharing without asking).

There used to be a website up that showed all of the crime(mishaps) on a map. It was color coded for the type of crime(it was such a pretty map), like pins on a map. I know the local police department had a map in the station with it(a colorful one can be found at the local help center). I'll see if I can find it...

Yeah, I had read that about the crime down there. I've looked around the area and Harker Heights is probably where I would be living. That is where the business is anyway. It wouldn't be a permanent move. Maybe for two or three years and then it would be on to somewhere else. Some jobs are worth the area you have to live in for the time that it takes to get the job done I think. It would be worth it to my career to do this I think. We'll see... The housing market is so xxxxty right now that who knows if I'll be able to sell my house to move anyway.
