I guess being a sponsor has it's privileges because one time I posted a link to a non sponsor site and Steve removed it and now he did the same thing. :passout:

This guy could be sued everyone knows Poorboy makes the worlds best wax

lol ... I only would do that in my own forum ... out here it's all up to the mods and admins. ... I be just another member just like everyone else ...

and what was removed? did I miss something

You posted about something and in my response I linked to ADS.
I did not know that it was on your forum because I read it while on this site.

I don't remember what was the topic polish I think.

within DC there are sponsored forums , AG, me, Troy and Scott P all have a forum where we can moderate with in our respective forums ...if you post a link to let's say Bryan or Zaino in the AG forum, it will get deleted by them...if it was in forum, I'd do the same ...;)

BlackBart, I think you're missing what Steve is telling you and I don't know if it is commonly understood. The PoorBoys section of the DC forum is paid for by PoorBoys, the same is true for AutoGeek (Dwayne, Killr, Max, Meghan, Jason etc.) and for Specialty Motoring (Scott). If you look towards the bottom of the forums page you will see a section called "Sponsored Forums". This in essence is the sponsor's leased site (for lack of a better description) within the DC forum. They are allowed what content resides in that forum.

As moderators we don't mess with the content in the sponsored forums unless asked to do so or unless something is blatantly not in harmony with DC's rules. I have certainly seen discussion in AG's forum that if I were the paying sponsor would not let stand (biased bad mouthing of a given product). They however are entitled to do as they see fit and have on several occasions allowed all to see the "dirty laundry" asking only for a chance to make things right. AG actually has several mini-forums for their lines (i.e. WolfGang and Pinnacle). You can say pretty much whatever you want about a product good or bad (within reason) in the non-sponsored forums but if you say uncomplimentary things about their products in their forum it will likely be removed. This is where some cry foul or censorship. Look at it this way, would you pay a sponsorship only to have someone come in and trash talk your products? That's not what they are paying for. I've done business with all of our sponsors both past and present, I've never known one of them that won't bend over backwards to make a problem right given the opportunity. Steve's PoorBoys forum at poorboysworld.net :: Index is his own and not related to DC. I think most will find once they understand the concept here that DC's discussion is surprisingly open. Hope this helps clear it up.

Yes I know those are at the bottom but I have never went their.
But I think I have it figured out MAYBE

Currently their is a thread MMM RED it is appearing on DC but at the far right it Say's PB world.
In the past I never paid any attention to that I thought that if I did not go into a forum other than DC I would be posting on DC only and not somewhere else.

I understand that you can not go to Mothers Meguiars AG or Poorboy and post links to competing products.
What I did not know was I can log on to DC and respond to a post on the forum and have it wind up somewhere else.

Looks like I have three option check to the right to make sure where it is coming from.
Don't mention product not carried by a sponsor or just do not respond to topics where the OP is asking what to use.
Any of the three will keep me out of trouble.

Would the software allow it to be in red or some other color so it would draw attention to the fact that it was not on DC this would help:confused:

Bart, You aren't leaving DC's site when looking at the "mmm Red" thread. The threads you post on DC remain only on DC. You are just looking at a thread that is controlled by the sponsor by virtue of where it was posted within DC (this is the OP's choice). In this case it was posted in PoorBoys World section which has some limitations. If the same thread had been posted in the LSP (a non-sponsored) section then it would be fair game and the sponsor would not be able to alter content. Some members choose to post their threads under the sponsor controlled sections simply as their way of complementing the sponsor knowing that someone isn't going to redirect the the intention of their post by disagreeing with their post. I know I have personally done this when I just want to say something without any contention associated with my post.

As far as highlighting the topic in red I have no idea. As you mentioned you can look at the drill down menu at the top to know which part of the forum you are in.

Thanks. pretty much boils down to the same thing though.
Today was not a total lose I learned something.
Like I said I never looked at the far right to see what I was posting in other than when I started a new thread.
I have got this way off topic so someone tell Charles why you don't posr about more detailing

I'll chime in a little bit. I personally think this site is very balanced. Yes, we are a "detailing forum" and that should be the main discussion here. But, we get a lot of positive feedback for some of the off topic threads we have on our site. We are real people with real opinions and feelings and concerns about things. I personally like the diversity that is evident by some of the posts by our members and it makes me feel proud to have a group of really interesting people, who seem to share an enthusiasim for detailing too!:yourrock

GOD GUTS GUNS AND DETAILING MADE AMERICA.
LET'S KEEP ALL FOUR. :bigups

Sometimes there is a need to be unobserved

:D

it's sort of a cop cruising with a marked car will slow traffic down and make people pay attention ... a mod or admin directly observing a site will sometimes be a settling factor :hmmm:

I'm concerned that I will get in trouble for posting about a product that isn't sold by one of the vendors

This one is a sore spot for me. I can't help but raise an eyebrow sometimes but unless I'm sure then I let it go.

There are people who go onto forums to purposely recommend products because they benefit from it somehow. How do I/we distinguish who's recommending and who's selling?

You all know I am a vendor and every once in a while I recommend a product but only if it's one I use and believe in. I have that priviledge because I'm a sponsor here.

Let me be clear. Members CAN recommend products. Even products that aren't sponsored. BUT if they benefit by means of free "samples" or are paid in any way then it becomes spam and unauthorized selling.

It's kind of like children trying to distinguish a bad stranger from a good one. They really can't so they are taught to yell "stranger" when they are approached.

The moderators and I aren't children but if a new member comes on here and starts recommending products we are probably going to address it somehow politely. We are here to look out for you and our sponsors.

Speaking of moderators last week I posted and made a typo and I did not notice it but Gearhead did and he corrected it and sent me a email.

Not much slips past that Ole boy.
The moderators here do a real good job.:bow

Now that AG carries nearly everything worth using it would be hard to talk about a product that they don't already sell.

While some would prefer 100% detailing talk I like the balance here.

Their are a lot more newbie type question at MOL than here and I think that is to be expected.

These people only know about what they see on the shelf at Wal-Mart and seek advice on how to use them.

If they become interested in detailing or just want to learn how to have their car look better they will look for more sites like this..

Nearly everyone who I know either just occasionally wash their car or once a year they pick up something at Wally World put it on and their done until next year.

Those people will never seek out a site like this it has NO Appeal to them

My experience is in aviation. I'm new to auto detailing and to this sight aswell so thererfore im still wading in the kiddy pool for the time being. Sort of getting my feet wet as it were.

SJR services

I relate to this guy, I just have'nt learned enough to be all that helpful so I detail the best I can and post the pics and hope for some constructive criticism. From this approach I have learned a lot so far. Thanks:dcrules
