Wake Up...DC

Wow! I just now read this thread end to end and have to say that I've got a tremendous amount of respect for both the conservative and liberal contingents. Not too many business people have such courage of their convictions that they would risk offending customers from "the other side."

I think that this speaks to the tone and environment of the DC Forum, where we can speak our minds, confident that we'll remain friends regardless of philosophical differences.

For my part: I am a registered Independent, and what I refer to as an "issue voter." I agree/disagree with both major parties at times, probably falling right of center most of the time.

I did not vote for Sen. Obama and was put off by his very liberal record. Having said that, I give him my unequivocal support now that he will be the next President. (I reserve the right to speak against various policies; however, I refuse to ever criticize him to the point of disrespect.) I did not extend this courtesy to Nixon, who should have been jailed, nor to Clinton, who disgraced the country and wasted his considerable intellectual talent and charisma.

President-Elect Obama strikes me as a brilliant, thoughtful man. He appears to be surrounding himself with competent people. I wish him, and us, the best.

Partial Birth Abortion: I am not a doctor or a nurse, so I don't "know" anything about this subject. I read about the procedure years ago in the Washington Post (not exactly a conservative rag.) The article was accompanied by line drawing graphics illustrating the operation.

As a combat veteran and a ten year police officer, I have seen some human misery. I can handle blood and guts. But before I could finish the Post article, I left my office, went to the bathroom and vomited.

Whether you believe terminating a fetus should remain legal or not... partial birth abortion differs from homicide by three or four inches. It is, in my opinion, a semantic distinction.

Israel: Every culture deserves the right to live in peace and have the opportunity to achieve prosperity. I pray that the Palestinian/Israeli situation can be resolved. I admit that when I hear that some of Israel's neighbors have sworn to wipe Jews off the Earth, I have to support their cause.

Separate and distinct from the above issue, what we really must WAKE UP about is the threat of fundamentalist muslim extremists who want (and have tried very hard) to eliminate Judaeo-Christian culture... eliminate as in "destroy."

What do these people want? They have stated no demands for land, wealth, or any other reason for which wars are typically fought. There does not seem to be any room for negotiation. I have to conclude that they simply want us all dead.

We need to WAKE UP, both the USA and Western civilization, to this threat, devise a plan and take positive steps to ensure our safety.

Beavis: I find the Puritan costume worn by the Beave to be culturally stereotypical and offensive. Why does one immediately assume that a Thanksgiving theme should portray an Anglo character?

What of the Native American contribution to this great holiday, a remembrance of the strife, survival and celebration of the early settlers upon this great land? Without the assistance of their aboriginal brethren, the Mayflower seafarers would have been coyote food within six months.

So get PC, Beavis! And I don't mean Porter Cable.

(Hey, after all that pontificating, I had to lighten it up a little!)

They want a world free from sin and moral decay and they think that's the way we are or because we allow it we should die. They have no concept of what love is. They are the ones who have declared war through terrorism. Their actions are driven by hatred and that is where they are fundamentally screwed up.

They hate what our nation was founded on and are dead set on wiping us out the first chance they get. I'm just glad we carry a much bigger stick.

There is no talking to them.

it was a joke for cryin' out loud!

I think your beavis post was taken as a joke.
I also think Troy's response was to the Muslim extremists discussion.
It seemed to be more towards expanding the context and not argumentative.

The ease of misunderstandings is probably one good reason to keep a detailing board relatively free of political and religious discussions.
It is extremely unlikely that a discussion will change any one's mind and quite possible it will antagonize some.

I do agree that beavis is distasteful in any configuration. :D

Believe me, I understand Troy's response... probably the most serious problem facing our society.

Regarding Beavis, he's usually a little quicker on the uptake. Just hoping I didn't unintentionally p*** him off. In other words, I didn't want to be a Butthead! :rofl

No guys, I am not mad about your misunderstanding of the importance of Beavis. I have been out of town, in and out of planes, so on and so forth for about a week. I'm not mad by any means.

Beavis, on the other hand, well I can't speak for him....:notme:

I think Beavis's skin is clearing up from all that turkey:lol2:

Looking ahead... I hope that Beavis does the Elf thing for Christmas... rather than the obvious Santa Claus getup. Poor ole Saint Nick doesn't deserve that kind of abuse.

(Then there's the antlers and red nose routine?)
