Garry Dean Quality!
I got a call from a guy who had some concerns about the oxidation on his truck. Apparently a friend of his told him it could not be removed. He called me to ask a few questions. After about 15 minutes of talking to him I had scheduled his appointment.

I arrive at his house and we have a brief consult. I couldn’t even tell the truck was blue when I first saw it, it was nasty! His main concern was the oxidation. We agreed on just oxidation removal and a polish. He wasn’t looking for full correction he just wanted to make it look better.

The process:

* Dawn wash
* Clayed with Blackfire Poly clay
* Dried with California water blade and the Absorber
* Taped up
* Compounded with Optimum Compound using a Northern Industrial rotary and an Orange LC 7.5” CCS pad
* Polished with Blackfire Finishing polish and a Green LC 7.5” CCS pad
* Untaped
* Dawn wash 2
* Tires and wheels cleaned with Amazing Roll Off and various brushes
* Dried with California water blade and the Absorber
* Tires and fender wells dressed with STP tire shine
* Sealed with Four Star UPP as LSP (I would have put a coat of wax on also, but the guy didn’t want to pay me for an additional hour)

Sorry, I didn’t take any before pics, but I did take pics as I sprayed it with Dawn for te first wash.

Thanks for looking!

Nice job. :bigups Why use Dawn? I have always heard it is not good for the trim. But then I suppose the rare wash with it probably doesn't do harm.

I've never used the Four Star UPP. It sure looks like it left a nice finish. I've always read good things about it. Did you charge by the hour?

Again, nice job. the finish looks really good.

Dawn works very well for stripping off old wax and other contaminants. Four Star UPP is my personal favorite sealant, it really goes on and off like a dream and leaves a slick wet look. Yes, I charge by the hour for paint correction. Thanks Reddwarf!

Garry if the Dawn will strip off the wax. Why would you use it to wash with the 2 time.
I'm no PRO just like to know. Looks like you did a great job.

I am not a pro either - my guess would be to wash off the polishing residue or dusting that he might have incurred.

Thats correct, I just used it to wash off the polishing residue.

Angelo, thats my girlfriend in the pic. I'm not married...yet. She is the absolute best helper I have ever had! She accepts constructive criticism, and she takes initiative! What more could you ask for?

I wouldnt use the dawn on a second wash, just use a pressure washer. it will remove all the compound sling. I spray lubrishine in the jambs prior to buffing. It helps out with sling removal. hth!

If your looking to remove the excess sling from the rotary...some S&W or QD will do it...the second dawn wash was a bot much...I would also use clay to remove the old product...the plus of that is you also take off a lot more contaminants that are on the car that no soap will remove

The car had already been clayed.

Dawn is not gonna hurt the paint as long as it's not used often and is followed up with paint protection and trim treatment.

Looks great.:bigups

I only use dawn when doing a full detail. It makes a great stripper to make sure there are no old sealants/waxes left on the paint.

We could probably pick out some negatives about every product and/or process on this and every other forum. The key to using Dawn is to be sure and treat trim and rubber seals afterwards as it is a very powerful degreaser and will dry them out. IMO Dawn does a wonderful job at what I use it for. I am very thorough in my explanation to the vehicle owner after a detail in which Dawn has been used that they should never use a detergent based soap on their vehicle. In addition I generally will suggest that if the client doesn't have me out for a routine wash that they should pick up some Megs Gold Class.
