Professionals, Weekend Warriors, and Hobbies

I'm beginning to wonder if I belong on this forum. Are the majority of members professional detailers? Weekend detailers that do it for extra money? Hobby detailers that just love cars?

The answer is YES to all the above.
Mark, it doesn't make a difference what your level of experience is here. We all share a desire to keep our vehicles looking their best and to help others do the same. Some are pros others W/E warriors and then people that just want to know.
Why do you think that you don't belong here??

Only you can decide that. :)

While I don't have any hard facts, my guess would be:
Full Time Professionals, (It's how they make their living) - 5% or less
Part time professionals, (They get paid for doing other peoples vehicles) - 20%
Hobby detailers, (Just do their own, family's, friend's vehicles) - 75%
:dunno:

I was just curious of the forum members.

I've always loved cars. My mother thought I was disturbed because I put clear fingernail polish on my matchbox cars when I was a kid. I am a software engineer now, most certainly disturbed, but I still love cars.

I'm a weekend detailer...far from a pro...I'm better than most in the area...big ego!

You my friend fit into this site just fine...its the love for clean cars and talking about it that make you a good fit!

One category I omitted:
Those that will try to help - Pretty close to 100% :bigups

Thank you very much. It's hard to tell sometimes you know? I didn't know if everyone here did this for a living or what. I've always liked to work on "finishes" in general...cars, furniture, you name it.

I farm for a living, datail with my wife on RAINY DAYS when we have a vehichle to do. The money from the service goes toward my kids college funds, I deduct supplies as business expense. Mark if you think you dont fit in here, some of the forums get almost mean sometimes.

I'm from Sioux Falls SD so I speak your language brother. I spent a lot of time on a tractor in my early years :D

Pretty funny how you mentioned s/w engineering. Do you need a s/w test eng. to verify your code? As of today(Halloween '08), I am now an ex-S/W Test Eng. in search of a new full-time job due to downsizing and unfortunately, I'm one of them being downsized. As for detailing, I was just searching the net to learn how to fix some minor paint chips and found a new hobby; "Amatuer Detailing". ha ha
