Question About PB Pro Polish & PWS

I recently received my order of PB Pro Polish and Polish with Sealant. I had to work today so I didn't get started on my wife's Nissan Quest until about 3:00 PM. I washed it and did a bit more work that I'll write up tomorrow. However, before that I have a question about my new products.

My plan tomorrow is to polish and wax the Quest. I was thinking of applying a coat of PB Pro Polish via the UDM, followed by PWS, and lastly either Natty's Blue or Red.

My questions:

1.Is the Pro Polish a wasted step? My thought was it would clean the paint for the PWS, but then is this really going to gain me anything?
2.What pad would be best to use with the Pro Polish? I have LC Smart Pads white, gray, blue, green and orange.
3.What is the best method for applying the PWS? Which pad is recommended? Do I use it like any other polish or is it like XMT 360 that you polish until it disappears?

While I have Pro Polish, I rarely use it. It seems I have been able to use other products that worked for me. Several people use it and are quite happy with it, but to me, it is not needed with the products I use.
One of those products is the PwS and it does a great job of cleaning/prepping the paint. It will remove some blemishes, but is somewhat pad dependent for that.
I have only used it with a polishing pad and pretty much just work it till the finish looks good to me. I never gave it much thought, but I don't think it disappears the way I use it.
Try the PwS on one section and see what your opinion is. I don't think you will need the Pro Polish unless you have some major marring. The PwS will leave a great finish for the Natty's.
 
If all I was going to do was clean and protect the paint surface I would use PwS with PC and a white pad then top with Natty's. You would do the same thing with PP but it is a pure polish without protection. Both will leave your paint surface ready for Natty's.
 
PwS is meant to be used instead of the Pro Polish and give you some protection too, so using both of them isn't necessary IMO. They are pad dependant polishes with little to no difference between them as far as polishing power goes.

One option would be to use the Pro Polish with an orange pad and follow that with the PwS and a white pad and finish with your choice of carnauba.

If it were me I would probably use the PwS with an orange pad. That combo is good at removing minor swirls and in most cases will not leave any marring of it's own. If that combo isn't aggressive enough then I would use the SSR 2.5 with the orange pad and follow that with PwS and a white pad. Then just follow with your carnauba.

Thanks for all the help! As I was suspecting the Pro Polish sounds like an extra step that would not be worth the effort. I'll try the PWS with an Orange or Green pad and see how that goes.

I'll post the results.
 
I wanted to throw this advice in even though it wasn't asked for.

Make sure you do small sections at a time, no bigger than 2 square feet. A couple nickel size drops of product is all you need. Using too much product will keep it from working as well. Spread the polish first and then go slow with mild pressure and overlap in checkerboard fashion with the polisher set at 5 or 6.
 
Well I'll disagree with everyone:D
I think that thoroughly cleaning the paint with Pro Polish is a great step to include, especially if a) you have a bunch of old products on the finish, and b) it's your own vehicle:inspector:

Now if you are a detailer like Troy, working on other people's vehicles, then no the extra step is not worth the effort :cool:

I'm not disagreeing with you Poorboy. I guess I do think in terms of the quickest way to get the results I want. I did mention using both of them with different pads was an option.

Since there seems to be some differing opinions, why don't you try a side by side comparison on a couple of sections. You already have both products so your time is all it will cost you.
It would be a way to satisfy your own curiosity as well as mine. :)
One big thing that you would get from it is your opinion and that's really the one that matters. :bigups
 
I'm done and will post the results soon. I ended up doing two cars because my Sister in Law called with some gunk on her car that she couldn't get off. My arm hurts so much right now! I'm in such terrible shape. A beer, advil, and a hot shower is helping.

Sorry for the tease, but I have a lot to write and pictures to post and did I mention that my arm is really sore?

I've tried. Sometimes it is more work than it is help! I've tried to teach my almost 15 YO that he could make good money if he learned from me. But I think he hears blah, blah, blah.
