clay or not

I'm waiting for my Wolfgang polish and sealant to arrive so I can detail my new Civic but I'm not sure if I should clay bar first of not ,the car is only a month old and the paint does not feel rough to the touch,so the question is should I clay it regardless of the paint condition ?I've heard this step is the most important step to prep the paint.

If it's a new car I'd definitely clay it. You could have numerous defects on there from the ride to your dealership. If you've never clayed before, you'd be suprised at how big of a difference it can make. Plus, it's an easy step that only takes a few minutes.
 
Put a ziplock bag over your hand and then feel the paint. If there is little bumps you should clay it. I also agree with Chee you might as well start off with a clean slate right.
 
I would clay. If it was shipped on a train, there could be rail dust on it also which will turn to little rust spots later on.
 
I also would clay. It won't take more than a few minutes (even quicker if you do it as you wash). The way I feel about it is that there is a lot of benefit that can be gained without much time invested. In my opinion it is a very important part of the overall detail.

Totally agree and the fact that its a new car....its a given for me
 
Congrats on your new car and your decision to clay.

It will give you a nice bonding experience with your new baby. More importantly it will remove all the nasty contaminants that are on the paint. A few years ago a buddy bought a new Vette. I was telling him about the claying process. I did a panel for him 1st few rubs removed all kinds of gunk off the car.

It's a Civic. It either traveled by train from Ohio or by ship from Japan. Dust or sea salt could be on the car.

Clay her, she'll love you for it.

Well I followed your and everybody else's advice and clayed the Civic,then used Wolfgang polish enhancer,and toped it up with WG sealant and WOW!!! what a transformation.
I've heard I can make the shine even deeper if I use Carnuba wax over the sealant .
I'm waiting for Troy to ship my wax and I'll give it a try.

I'm glad all worked out well for you. Now all you need to do is post some pictures of your recent detail.
 
I tried to take a picture that really shows the shine :
this is the best I could come up with ,believe me it looks a lot shinier with more depth than what's on the pic . :sorry:

I'm waiting for a shipment of Pinnacle liquid carnuba wax and QD,i'll see how it's going to effect it with multiple coats.
