Confessions of an Old Forum Member by Captain Obvious

Accumulator:
You and myself are "tenured detailers". My intent of the above post is how "different" times are today in procuring "good" (well, common and well-know brand names or those trying to become as much) detailing products that are now available over-the-counter at many big-box stores.
Printed magazines are becoming extinct and non-existent, or more precisely irrelevant, with the advent of the now ubiquitous mobile smart phone.
Personally, I still like magazines just like I like printed newspapers and printed catalogs of the mechanical design world components, BUT that's what I grew up on to read for information and use for work, and that, too is "old school".
I guess I am too "backward looking" rather than being "forward looking", and like I said in by post to begin this thread topic that in my much younger days, I hated and despised those "veteran" engineering associates at my work place who were (much) older than me when they said "I remember when it was done this way..." in comparing the drawing board to what was then new technology of the Computer-Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) terminal world. This was especially true when the main frame system crashed or the CADD terminal was very slow to respond to command inputs, which was "occasionally" because the main frame was shared by all company departments and if IT needed to get "more computing power" to the Accounting Department to complete payroll in a timely fashion, engineering lost out and we were slow, which did not sit well with older (and everybody else, including me) engineering personnel who now had to do their design and drafting work on CADD. Now, being older, I say that very phrase myself: "I remember when it was done this way back in the day...."

One other "observation", though, I have noticed is how many young people know little of the history or background of their own family or of the affairs and government proceedings of this country or the world and its effect it has on their own personal health or what is happening in this county and the world today, respectively. In my hypocrisy, I was JUST like that when I was their age!
Cliche as it may be, "History repeats itself" and I am living proof of that.

I think some of the problem with the forums is that you have to wait for an admin to approve your account before you can post. I’ve been waiting for an approval on my other account for about 7 months or more.

Do you mean at another forum? I don't think here or AGO have any administrators anymore, so no new members. Although someone seems to be clearing the spam at AGO, not sure if they have admin privileges, Gearhead clears the spam here, but I don't think he can approve new members.

No, on here. I’m Brrr on AGO and I made that account on here just for easier log in purposes. It’s still waiting for an admin to approve the account. One sec I’ll do a screen grab

as you can see, I’ve been waiting on an approval to join since Dec 29th from an admin. So that would be a reason why new people aren’t really joining. Unless it’s just a one off instance for me.

As I said, as far as I know there are no administrators here, I'm not sure what they are doing at AGO. Gearhead is the Mod here, but he doesn't have full admin privileges, from what he's told me.

I am confused (easy for Captain Obvious to be!)
You want ANOTHER member name to log in on on this forum instead of your current "BDubya" because you want to use the NEW login name to be the SAME as what you have on Auto Geek.org forum??
It might be that IF you have used the email address for the NEW user "Brrr" to be identical to that of what your current login name as "BDubya"is, the new user creation software is "confused" as well, but the admins or the software should have notified you of that.

My suggestion? Just use the current login name you have and keep posting.
If I come across as cynical or snide, well, maybe it is because I have earned the name Captain Obvious.

I suppose I could ask the question of members here IF they belong to "other" forums. Not that you have to name them (or should, by forum ethics), but you could tell us how many you do in number or quantity and IF you have the same login name on the "other" forum(s) as you do here.
This seems counter-productive to my attempts to maintain current-and-past members within the Autopia Forum and for them to keep posting here as well OR to have lurkers join as new members and become part of the detailing community discussions.

Allegiance and longevity mean little if you are not getting the answers to your detailing topic questions or posts to new topics OR if it seems like the same members (that would be me and the few of us who are still here) keep answering those question with the same responses. I understand this may be a contributing factor for current -and-past members and lurkers-but-not-members who want some "new"or alternative opinions or suggestions becoming a new member on "another" forum. Truth be told, this forum and its members are not meeting those detailing needs. THAT HURTS!

World War II English Prime Minister Winston Churchill once quipped that democracy is THE very worst form of government-except for all the others.
I could paraphrase that and say that the Autopia Forum might be the worst place for detailing information and help-except for all the others!
