Merlin:
late to this detail.
How do YOU clean an engine bay?
I ask because i have watched some YouTube videos on this detailing task using various degreasers (Zep Purple Industrial HD Degreaser versus Meg`s Pro Detailing Super Degreaser D10801) and the "detailer"/YT author sprayed water from a garden hose into the engine compartment for cleaning and rinsing with good results. He said he never uses a pressure washer, just garden hose (home well or municipal water supply) pressure and then dries it with compressed air.
Do you just wipe off what you can see with a microfiber and cleaner and then spray with Sonus MotorKoat or in this Porsche detail, Koch-Chemie Motorplast?

Love the dark blue finish on this particular Porsche. Excellent detailing.

And I NEVER tire of seeing your signature "Merlin Shot" photo with the palm tree reflecting in the hood of any vehicle you detail. Your detailing posts would not be the same without it!

To start all engine bays are different. Depending on the amount of dirt and grime I may spray Simple Green then lightly "spray" it off.
The first thing to do (again depending on the engine bay) is to have a cold engine. and cover all electrical part with plastic. (Saran wrap, big sandwich bags etc.)
* Do not get water near electrical parts (alternator, bettery etc.) Blow off any excess rinse water with compressed air then dry what you can with a towel.
If it`s really dirty, and before it`s dry, wipe it down to remove excess grease and grime.
Once it is "cleaned" then dress with Sonus Motor Kote (matte finish) or Koch Chemie Motorplast Spray (darker hoses etc. and a bit shiny).

Thank you for your kind words.
