Merlin:
Excellent detailing on this challenging Jeep. Looks like you "removed" all the orange-peel from the clear coated paint in the pics of the finished Wrangler.
Question One: Did you do so and did your Paint Thickness Guage(s) help with this process??

Question Two: Are you mixing the CARPRO Iron-X Foam and Poorboy`s Prep Foam soaps TOGETHER for your prep wash OR are you washing with them separately?? If together, what are the soap ratios in the MTM foam cannon (gun?) are you using to achieve this prep wash combo?

CARPRO Red Masking Tape-off pics available. Question Three: So care to post any?? (Yeah, I`m weird, but they look SO neat, pun intended.)

Thank you. That is very kind.

Interestingly enough I did not remove any orange peel. I try not to (if at all possible) as it can compromise the OEM paint thickness.

Oddly enough on this vehicle, the paint was very thick! It measured (in most places) 350+/- microns (I use Microns, not Mils).
This measurement was using a DeFelsko PosiTest DFT Paint Thickness Gauge for ferrous/non-ferrous metals (hood, doors, etc.).

For the fenders (they are plastic) etc. I used the DeFelsko 200C3-G PosiTector 200 C3 Advanced Ultrasonic Coating Thickness Gauge.
An interesting item was the door hinges. Most Jeep hinges are rough paint (scratchy). These were silky smooth (a quality paint job).

Yes, these gauges are expensive...but not as much as having to repaint (and an unhappy client). This is a "Do it once. Do it right" investment.

Yes, I use them combined. My reasoning???

CARPRO IronX Snow Soap helps do decontamination lifting during the prep wash.
Poorboys Snow Foam Super Slick Pre Wash Shampoo for Foam Lance Cannon has better "foam" to cling (thicker and longer)
My ratios??? A "Grandma" measurement. Some of this and some of that, whatever I pour in the bottle that gives me the best results.

CARPRO Red Masking Tape-off pics available.

Per your request...Here`s a couple of taped-off pics. Not really exciting with red tape on a red vehicle.

Enjoy the pics.

...and NO! Before you ask. I do not dress the running boards. I`ll "clean" them but I will not dress them (safety). Do you "dress" the brake and gas peddle?

Thanks for the pics of the tape job. The snazzberry color of the Jeep do NOT lend itself to contrasting the CARPRO Red masking tape. Sometimes your very neatly-applied tape jobs are so cool-looking and give the vehicle the appearance that the trim or other pieces have been painted "red" or that pin-stripping has been applied, hence my request for pics. (But as stated, not in this case)

No dressing of brake or gas pedals for the safety reasons you mentioned (contributes to slippage of shoe sole/foot off pedals. Just too much liability, in my opinion, even for my own vehicles).
I do clean them with an diluted APC and a stiff-bristled tooth, wipe them with dampened microfiber, and then dry them with an old cotton towel I have been using for this purpose. Never tried a "supposedly non-slip" vinyl floor mat soap, like McKee`s37 or Weathertech`s because I do not have any.
(Oh, wait... you were just asking me a comparative question relating to step/footing safety, not HOW I clean and if I dress pedals. Are you SURE you are Captain Obvious????)

I do "dress" running boards and tube steps, but I cheat. I dress them with Meg`s Ultimate Plastic Dressing, then wipe them with diluted APC to remove the slipperiness. Kind of illogical to do so, because much of the sheen and the protective chemicals are removed, but some of the dressing and it properties are left behind IF you do not scrub hard. I just feel the plastic surface with my fingers and it they feel a little slippery, well then another round of diluted APC is used with a "little" more vigorous wipe down. (Like you said,"illogical" to do so. ARE YOU SURE YOU ARE Captain Obvious??)
I have used 303 Protectant previously, BUT because this is a water-based product, a heavy rain will wash this away and on chromed tube step runners, they bleed and streak the chrome OR streak the paint next to treated trim, so I do not use this on exterior trim or truck bed vinyl tonneau covers anymore (live and learn! Insert ANOTHER reference about being Captain Obvious!!!!).
