2017 Dodge Charger Daytona 392

The Guz

Mike
I recently worked on this black on black 2017 Dodge Charger Daytona 392 during the memorial day weekend.

I did not take too many photos during the process. But it received the typical wash and decon prior to polishing. Nothing new or exciting here other than being careful with the matte vinyl area.

The paint was in rough shape. I did a few test spots and in the end 3D One with a Rupes Yellow foam pad yielded the best results for a one step prior to a ceramic coating.

I am sure some of you are going to freak out because the paint is not perfect with the deeper RIDS still left behind but this was a paint enhancement as it is a daily driver and not a show car. No sense in removing more clear than needed for a car that will see daily abuse. Made a judgment call and gave the customer what he asked for as he will be owning this car for many years.

This Charger has the matte vinyl graphics on the roof, trunk , rear quarter panels, the hood and the small 392 emblems on the side fender. These areas were simply wiped down with CarPro Eraser and coated with two coats of CarPro Skin. The vinyl surfaces appeared richer after they were coated.

50/50 after Skin was applied.

Left with a nice finish after leveling.

The wheels are also a matte finish and the same concept was followed in prepping them for a coating. They were wiped down with Eraser and coated with 22ple VM1. The wheels appeared richer. Only the faces were coated.

The paint was wiped down with Pinnacle Black Label prep spray and coated with the SPS Graphene Coating. I have to thank Dave aka DaveT435 for sending this coating out to me to test out. Only one coat was applied.

Other areas coated:

Glass coated with McKee’s 37 Glass Coating

Trim coated with CarPro DLUX, Honeycomb grille dressed with Meguiar`s D4510

Tires coated with Tac System Tire Coat

Nice. She looks good. When coating matte vinyl did you just “eye” the edges? If so what did you use

Thanks. With Skin it is fine if it ends up on paint. It wipes off easily enough to not worry about that. I only taped off the vinyl during the polishing stage to avoid damaging the appearance of the matte appearance.

Looks great especially for a one step on black. Was the paint on the softer side?
No cold start video?

Thanks. The paint was right in the middle.

No start up video. It does sound great though.

Is that a 150ml bottle? Looks quite, uh...large!

The SPS seems to look very good on black, the reflectivity of it really shines thru even light dust/pollen from what I`ve seen.

Those Chargers sure are nice cars...have pondered if that may be a way to go for a fun, all year daily driver. Sure looks good now, that`s for sure. I`m too chicken-sh*t to mess around with any flat paint/decals, I`d likely goon that stuff up for sure!

Great work Guz !!!!

Thanks Pat.

It is a 50ml bottle. I used roughly 3-4 ml for one coat.

Looks great! Nice wet look, great reflections!

I did that ‘06 Trailblazer. Looked great when we got done. After the first wash it looked even better. It wasn’t a vehicle I would usually coat but it belongs to a kid I’m training.

After we washed I was really kicking myself for not taking some before and after pics.

Thanks and thanks for sending a bottle to play around with.

That looks great! How did you polish the “HEMI” down the middle of the vinyl on the hood? Thank for the help

Thanks. I taped off all the matte vinyl’s to avoid any polish or pads from making contact on the surface. For the hood I used the Rupes Nano.

Your welcome. Thanks for trying it. So far feedback has all been really positive. Just need to see how well it holds up now.

Did you notice that it really doesn’t have that strong solvent smell that most coatings do?

You are right I did not notice a strong scent from it.
