Seeking advice on an Astropneumatic Thread setter

My info is mainly YouTube driven.
I do have a machinist background, before swapping
professions during the recession.
This looks like a manual Pem setter to me.

My plan is to drill out 2 Pop rivets and replace
them with these threaded rivets. Making the holes
reusable and more versatile.
If I can get this to work right. I will be able to add
several of these to my Detail cart and for these new
Lights I have coming.

Anyone use this tool, or something similar ??

:thought:

Hey mary, we use the PRN1 air powered version of this at work to put on jeep fenders.

It works great, the rivnuts hold all the parts we use them on very tight.

Ah, interesting! Looks like a mini version of something I`ve seen used for undercarriage stuff.

Got a Q: how would you prevent rust at the point where you "rivet" the insert in? Same issue I can have with any kind of riveting...imagine "X hours of salt-spray" having its way with the edges of the holes...

Strong66 mentioned the Jeep fenders, and I see a *LOT* of such panels rusting around their rivets and/or wherever sheetmetal screws are used with steel panels.

I`ve found that painting the holes with [anything I`ve tried] is only moderately effective long-term and thought maybe somebody has an idea I hadn`t thought of.

Will work just fine for your application. Fool around with it on a scrap piece of metal or plastic if you need to just to get a feel for how it would work

For vehicles you are supposed to use a scratch and fill primer then paint on the holes. But chances are some will get taken off just installing the new rivets. So obviously salt spray will cause corrosion at some point

Yeah, sigh...I keep hoping for a miracle solution though.
