pffft....and you thought detailing was a never ending product

With auto detailing, we`re always striving for the next best thing. whether it be a lsp, polish, a better drying towel, etc.

Ha, it`s that time of the year for me , and auto detailing supplies ain`t got nothing on gardening ;-) I got all my veggies all started and I was thinking about this correlation - for 20+ varieties of tomatoes I chose to grow this year....out of the 2000+ seeds easily available, what does one choose and why . It`s not too much different from auto detailing, as when choosing a tomato variety, we`re always striving for the next best pink/black/cherry/oxheart tomato !
 
Been there since mid February!! Planted my red potatoes then. Just planted Roma and cherry tomatoes amongst other veggies. These seem to be the most eaten in the house
 
Not a tomato fan but I just helped Paul (ex-autopian) with his jalapeno harvest. I could mow down an entire field of jalapenos myself lol

YES !!!!!

Love the tomatoes for sure ! So many great ones and the best are always home grown...

But long, green beans, in a pan, gently warmed up in butter, a nice Omaha Steaks Filet Mignon, big Potato from Idaho, some hot French or Sourdough Bread,... aay-yay-yay !!! :)

And another way to eat canned French Style Green Beans = remove almost all the water, warm them up but not too long, add a lot of Costco Bacon Crumbles, 1-2 Extra Large Eggs, stir carefully with a silicone utensil, until all the egg is cooked but not overcooked.... so yummy !!

Ok, you guys are making me hungry !!!

Oh wait. Another analogy to detailing. You know how we obsesses about setups for polishing.

I upgraded my grow light system from CFL to LED. Spent about 1500 on the lights. It`s not a game changer but definitely everything started is not leggy, super bushy with thick stems. These lights are more for the --mary ju wanna-- market

The plants are now getting what they need in sunlight light to grow really nice !!!! That is great !!!!

Jealous that you guys have started planting stuff. We typically don`t start stuff inside. Probably won`t be able to get stuff in the ground until mid May with how this New England weather has been.

I start around February. Still probably have another 3 weeks to a month before transplant. Starting stuff indoors just get`s me a head start - bigger roots, sturdier stems, in theory, maybe 2-3 week earlier fruit + the stuff we seed is not stuff that the big box offers.

It`s not cheaper though....I`ve been running my lights 16 hrs on / 8 off everyday....
I`m avoiding doing a cost analysis on the electrical bill. We`re pretty high compared to national rates

Here`s a tip Justin. Don`t plant too early. Planting too early will just stunt your plant. And then the stunted plant needs to recover. Plants planted at the right time will often surpass/catch up than stuff that might have been put outdoors too early. Just for your wiki
 
MD you are spot on about the plants catching up. The ground is not warm enough for me to plant yet. The weather in Virginia is crazy we had 4 days of low 80’s. This week it’s getting down in the 30’s for a couple nights I’ve planted too early before, had to replant the tomatoes and cucumbers That was a PITA. That WILL NOT happen again. Do any of you have problems with pests? I have squash bugs on the squash, stink bugs and Japanese beetles on the cucs jap beetles eat the okra leaves but not the pods my chickens love jap beetles. I pick them off and they chow down I’m happy for you guys that can plant early there’s nothing like the taste of homegrown veggies

Research parasistic wasps and what flowers they like and see about planting those flowers..
Any time we can use Nature`s own pest control it`s always better for them and your crop..
