Optimum has new toys coming

I have to admit, I`m a sucker for a different looking bottle. It`s like when Lucky Charms added a new marshmallow or changed their colors a bit. If these are in fact different formulations, I will have to resist....for a while.

I have to admit, I`m a sucker for a different looking bottle..

Heh heh, whereas I`m the exact opposite, still refilling my old bottles rather than use newer ones, and not just for detailing stuff! Eh, might just be some kind of "I`m not getting older, time`s standing still!" :o

Seems like every time something`s "improved" I knee-jerk to "eh, it`ll probably be New Coke", so I...accumulate.. a lot of the old version.

I like seeing the visual quality of the bottles match the quality of the stuff that`s inside. I like it (two thumbs up) Dr. G!

The ONR and opti seal are reportedly much different.

Maybe, but how different can the ferrex and glass cleaner be?

Old ferrex 17oz for $19.99
New ferrex 16oz for $24.99

Old opti glass 17oz for $9.99
New opti glass 16oz for $14.99

Don`t get me wrong, I love optimum products. They are almost all I use now, I just hope they don`t raise the prices too much across the board. That`s one of the best things about the line, cost effective and they work great.

The products will be run beside the old products as far as I know.

They are made to be more closely suited to use on Opticoat Pro+ vehicles, but are an improvement either way.

So far I have used to new Hyperseal and ONR and they both meet a lot of the complaints people on these forums have about gloss/lubricity.

There was nothing wrong with the slickness of the old formulas from my experience with about 40 litres of ONR, but it`s great to see them meet the requests of the community.

As far as price, they are marketed as simple cleaning solutions to be sold directly customers purchasing their pro coatings, they should be priced accordingly. From experience I know that this style of bottle is much more expensive per unit.

How is hyper seals hydrophobics? I`m really hoping for beading and sheeting more comparable to reload or PNS.

I`m glad this thread got back on topic (from devolving into a FB thread).

Just to nudge everyone back on track (and as Trewarin pointed out), these products are not replacements for or adjuncts to the regular OPT line, they are maintenance products marketed to people who have had their cars coated by a professional (OPT) installer. They will only be sold BY the installers, or directly from the Opti-coat.net website, they will NOT be sold in the retail (Autogeek/Autopia Care Care/etc.) market. At least that is what has been said so far.

As Trewarin mentioned, there is reportedly some difference in the Opti-Coat ONR and that Hyper Seal is not the same as Opti-Seal; still waiting for info on the other products (I`m no insider; all the info I`ve posted here was gleaned from the Optimum forum).

As far as whether any improvements to the products will trickle down into the "regular-line" products, my guess is no, since they are selling them side-by-side at the Opti-coat.net store. Although OPT also has the optimumcarcare site which has a newer look than the Opti-Coat store, it`s just hard for me to imagine them firewalling off the old products, but maybe eventually it will be that way, that the Opti-Coat site will only sell the Opti-Coat products, with a different site for the "regular" products.

If they can pull that off maybe the "regular" products will get a technology infusion, but it`s pretty hard to hide that stuff from Google.

I don`t test hydrophobicity on customers vehicles because of curing times relative to when I am delivering.
I will post back here in a week after Hyper Seal has sat on my mini fleet here for a while.

Ok, so these are maintenance products for people who have had their cars opti-coated. Maybe the shampoo, ONR, QD and such are reformulated to better work over the coating, But I`m not seeing why a different Optimum tire gel and fabric cleaner are needed by a car owner based on whether the paint is opti-coated or not.

If the purpose of this line is for it to be sold outside of the regular retail and online channels, then I`d wonder if the products that aren`t applied to paint (or even those that are) are really any different from the corresponding products in the regular optimum line.

As I said above, the current info is that just a couple of the products are different (OCNR and Hyper Seal). To me it sounds like the same vocal contingent in the pro-installer base who got OC 2.0 kiboshed is also responsible for this "unique" line of products for them to sell and have an additional revenue stream. Although I have to imagine most of those sales will be at the time of coating, not like they are going to make a return trip to buy car wash when they can buy it from the Optimum online store.

I was just listening to a bit of the OPT podcast where they talked about these products, and the OCNR (Opti-Coat No Rinse) is likened to ONR with Opti-Seal added (in the same way ONRWW is ONR with OCW added). So that sounds interesting...except it`s twice the price of ONRWW and only available in 16 oz, no quarts, no gallons. And I can`t see how it will ever be sold that way, because it would undercut the installers selling it in the fancy bottle.

EDIT: Apparently the wash (Opti-Coat M-Wash) is also different than Optimum Car Wash (the M-Wash has "added fluoropolymers").

EDIT EDIT: Sorry for the running commentary, but I`m listening to the podcast...apparently the Opti-Coat OPC is slightly tweaked, and the Opti-Coat Tire Gel is a different product than Opti-Bond, it`s non-silicone(?). It was stated that the MDR and FerreX are the same but that the carpet and fabric cleaner is tweaked, and that the Protectant Plus "must be", although it sounded like the glass cleaner was the same. They are also selling a super plush 1200 GSM drying towel.
