I clayed my brand new car and left marks all over

Thanks, just trying to figure out if its worth getting a foam cannon.

I get the feeling that most people who use those have unrealistic expectations.

(With the possible exception of *coated* vehicles)..When it comes to cleaning any vehicle used in the normal sense (in other words, I`m also excepting garage-queens that simply *NEVER* really get dirty) I don`t see anybody getting away from needing some degree of mechanical agitation. IME the trick is to get the "big stuff" off before said agitation, which is then used/needed to remove "road film". And when cleaning that off, you gotta figure out a way to avoid rubbing it into/across the paint with pressure sufficient to cause marring. Really do have to get it *all* off too, unless you`re working exclusively with deionized water.

SO...rather than a foam cannon, I`d get a regular pressure washer for prewashing off that Big Stuff and then figure out how to do the rest of it without pressing/rubbing that dirt into/across the paint (I use a constant stream of foamgun output at the point of wash medium-to-paint contact).

Whatever you decide to use for your wash regimen, I sure wouldn`t expect to get it fully sorted out/squared away for the first few dozen tries. I`m far from the dullest knife in any drawer and I have very good facilities, but it took me *years* to get to where I can repeatedly wash a truly dirty vehicle without instilling marring. Conceptually it`s quite simple, practically it`s quite difficult.

Just imagine dragging it across that beautifully polished black paint.....

Garbage it is...........

after a thorough clean and hand wash/dry...die cast car duty now.. and only on the side that didn`t touch the ground--- worst case I have to get out the nano again , haha

I already cut part of the corner so I don`t get it confused ever,, and that felt like putting down Old Yeller or something

I figure after the 4th step polish even he gets tired....... ???
yes. I will be covering the entire car in a coating soon, got two bottles of GTECH that are not going to use themselves

and a secret plan for something ridiculous but intriguing to me so I have to try it

6 pages and 2,400 views??? Wow

Gentlemen,

I am was pretty excited to read your collective reaction. I have a mild case of panic attack but in reality, my paint is fine.
Still haven`t driven or touched my car.

So I spent some time watching videos and reading the forums.

The PORTER-CABLE 7424XP 6-Inch Variable-Speed Polisher seems like a safe choice:
PORTER-CABLE 7424XP 6-Inch Variable-Speed Polisher w/ 18007 6-Inch Lambs Wool Hook and Loop Polishing Pad - - Amazon.com
Does the lamb pad that is offered as a combo any good? Everyone says to throw out the white pad the machine comes with.

I have seen and heard in action on YouTube.
Which then led me to this guy who explains the differences between claying, compounding and polishing.
He is also a fan of Rupes it seems.

The plan is now to fix all those marks and then wax or seal it?

It`s a rabbit hole, you weren`t kidding!

I would of course suggest getting the pc from here....

With that said, if you buy that one, throw BOTH pads away and get some Lake Country.

Then what else should I get. Several products were suggested, which liquid (forgive me, prob. using the wrong terminology) should I order?

Ahhhhh, now that`s for you to figure out....... We all sorta have our own favorites as well as what we think will work best with specific paints.

A lot of great suggestions, so can`t really go wrong.

I can`t buy a kit. It will pads none of you guys mentioned. You said you like Lake Country so I`ll have to piece a kit together for myself with the PC, backing plate (how big?), one pad and some compound.

Rupes is Italian! How can Italy have some many problems, they make everything, boats, guns, fashion, food, hot girls... shouldn`t they be dominating????
