Silver Prius with a side of glass polishing

Here`s a quick one! I think glass polishing is very under rated part of detailing. Ugly water spots and wiper streaks, no one wants to see those. Not to mention that is impairs your vision during the rain. In the middle picture you can see a 50/50 of how clear a glass can get with a quick polish.. and to top it off with a coating to keep it protected for a long time!

The rest of the vehicle got a iron decontamination, clay bar and sealant. Happy holidays!

Used Ceriglass with glass pad and coated with McKee37 glass coating.

nice job Don...
QUESTION:
I have some ceri glass but no glass pads (solving that problem soon though)

I`ve heard that stuff is a beast to work with, spitting all over the place

Did you experience any issues?

I`ve been afraid to use it and needed It a few times in the past but didn`t use it

i use to have a bunch of splatter EVERYWHERE but now i do small sections at a time and use less product. still get some dusting here and there but i always polish glass before washing the vehicle now

do you quote that hourly or based on # of windows ?

how long would you guess that glass took?

Looks great Don , do you know if there`s a difference between the glass and paint coating ? I wonder what it is if there is one, or if it`s just marketing. I currently have the paint coating on my windshield with no issues, haven`t tried the glass specific one(s) yet.

havent tried any paint coating on glass before. mckee37 doesnt flash or anything for me though, it just wipes on and melts into the glass. i still go back with a damp MF and wipe it off after 5 minutes or so

Did you do any prep steps like iron x or clay the glass before polishing? or did you just apply ceriglass and let it rip? Thanks and great job Don!

Did you try CarPro Spotless Waterspot Remover before going to the Ceriglass? I`ve got a bottle of the water spot remover that I bought to try on a car that I wound up selling. I`ve got some Ceriglass and rayon pads that I have been avoiding using because of the problems with splatter that have been reported.

On a similar topic has anyone tried Ceriglass and rayon pads on headlights? I`ve been thinking about trying the combo on some badly deteriorated headlights.

i`ve read reports that if you left spotless on the glass to long that you would etch the glass and end up polishing it.

haven`t seen anyone try ceriglass on plastic lights before. would be interesting since it`s a strong abrasive

nanoskin with glass cleaner and straight to polishing
You just have to be careful with the chemicals that the Nanoskin products come in contact with, some will dissolve the rubber polymer and ruin the mitt/towel/sponge, or make it streak and leave deposits. Some glass cleaners may be OK, others may not be.

Don, great job with that glass. What was your weapon if choice? Flex? Rupes Mini?

I have only 6 inch glass pads and the flex is fine for the windshield and back window, but the sides are too small. Wondering if my Mini would do the job or whether I should invest in a smaller backing plate for the flex.

Also, that Prius looks like it has windows with a frame. Did you roll the window down to get the edge? Managing the edge, especially on frameless windows, has always been a unknown for me.

PC in speed 6 with 5" pad. then worked the edges with 3" pad on cheap rotary.

i didn`t roll the window down, i just work the edge very closely, taping off any trim i don`t want to damage.

mini should do fine since the PC works. thought about getting a 5" rotary backing plate just for glass work too.

on a side note kevin. read that you used kenotek leather cleaner and conditioner. quick thoughts on that product? mainly interested in the smell of the product and feel of the leather after it`s been applied

Don, I have a review of that stuff in autopia, but don`t recall the link. You`ll find it on the search.

Some things I`ve learned:

1. Smell is neutral. Not overwhelmingly positive or negative.
2. If you spray it on Napa leather, you need to work it and buff it fairly quickly. It will dry and streak if you don`t. Not super time sensitive, but I wouldn`t let it sit too long. If you reapply and buff, this streaking goes away easily.
3. Deepens the color of the leather, and I like that
4. Can leave the leather slick for a while. After a few uses, the seats aren`t slick.
5. I`ve stopped using it on the steering wheel because of its slickness.
6. For the dash, I spray on a towel and then wipe to avoid getting on the window.

I do like it, and as an AIO, I think it`s pretty good. YMMV.
