Official Lake Country Hydrotech Appreciation Thread

Used the Hydro Techs for first time this weekend. Teamed with Menzerna stuff, great results. Tangerine with Menzerna Medium Cut Polish 2400 (PO83) left pretty much an LSP ready finish. Yet I couldn`t leave well enough alone so did it again with Menzerna Super Finish Plus SF-3800 (PO85RD) with crimson pad. Liking these pads a lot, cleaned with quick brush and blow with compressed air after each section. Generally speed 5 on GG6, 5.5" HydroTechs (7/8" thick), ran it until polish nearly translucent. Not really sure the 3800/crimson combo added anything but it was 2016 Mazda Soul Red metallic paint so was going after the ultimate since the paint just looked so cool; like a candied apple drenched in molten glass. Gonna have to start stocking up on these pads!

True Story:
several years ago, I was using a Hydro. As I sat on my garage floor leisurely working glaze into a lower panel of my car, the pad spun off of the polisher, blistered down the driveway, went into the road and made a left turn, and proceeded to roll down the road, out of site, As I sat there, gobsmacked, the Velcro still attached to the backing plate.

Lol. I had a few velcro adhesive failures but that situation has been addressed and taken care of by Lake Country. Since then and I have not had the velcro separate a single time.

Worst velcro is the Kompressor pads. I had a couple fail the very first time I washed them. Got in touch with LC, but never received replacement pads. I`ll never buy those again.

Wow - Beautiful work !!!
You did an awesome job ! Super great correction !
Amazing color ! Looks so wet !
That paint is Blinding in the sun !!!

Glad your experience with Hydro-Shreds and Menzerna products was positive..
I have had only great results from these 2 together for years..

I always run the product down to almost all gone and it turns out great with way less wiping after..
Why not let the pad do all the work it was intended to do anyway..
It is way easier to change out pads to a clean one than it is to try to remove a scratch made from something that was in the the microfiber towel..

You Killed It !

I contacted LC directly through their site. Exchanged emails with someone after, I don`t recall the name. Guessing my info just got lost or whatever and shipment never made it out. Honest mistake, not too worked up about it.

Well, I guess if you dont care about it any longer, then it must be ok..

These Wisconsin people are really nice..

Perhaps your shipment went to the wrong place or something by accident...

Hydrotech work well in a rotary? Dewalt or Makita with Polishes DAT and SMAT?
how their performance and durability compared against CCS?

performance, great. Durability, not so much. And they do work very well on a rotary. But the CCS pads are awesome on a rotary, especially the larger curved pads. If you`re working with a smaller, flat pad, go with the hydro.

I have used Hydro-Shreds on my Makita 9227C, since they were first invented almost 10 years ago.

I use the 5.5" Cyan pads first for all correction, with downward pressure, no speeds higher than 1000, keep the pad moist, work the product until it is about gone, and then lightly microfiber and see how beautiful it is..

Depending on the product used, the paint type, and your technique, it may take a few passes to achieve beautiful clarity, smoothness, and gloss, but you can get this - I do it all the time..

The Tangerine pad is also good but will correct less and will give a little higher clarity and gloss.. This pad is perfect on maintained paint if you want to really make it great after the usual wash, claybar, rubberized towel, etc.., and a good finishing polish like Optimum Finish, for example...

I have great results with these pads and any of the Meguiars, Menzerna, and Optimum lines of compounds and polishes, Dat or Smat...

Hydro`s are firm, and the thicker ones are perfect for Rotary work, and still flexible enough to do anything needed on any vehicle including Ferrari, Porsche, etc..
They come in all sizes and the best part - only 3 colors to work with...

No problem! He`s a great guy and an awesome detailer too. We got to hang out with the Lake Country guys a few times last year and learned a lot about pads. I`ve never seen anyone look at a pad like him before. I thought he was going to pull out jewelers loupe when inspecting his pads.

According to a thread unveiling our beloved Hydro pads, the year was 2009!

Also worthy of mention is the CCS turns 10 this fall. These ecxellent pads have stood the test of time. I need to order another set of CCS pads to commorate the anniversary...

I would have liked to try a CCS Hydrotech, but such a beast doesn`t exist.

Thanks for your feedback guys.

What happens is that CCS Orange have had problems with SMAT polishes, especially 3D/HD Cut+, tends to dry faster. While with Menzerna & Meguiars, without problems work time.

Just an observation.

I`ve traditionally use the blue Buff and Shine polishing pad for finishing. It always does a fantastic job, but lately, I`ve been using the Tangerine Hydrotech for finishing with M205 on the 7424...

I must have assumed that the stiffer nature of the Tangerine pad would not work well with the M205, but boy was I wrong...
Like the stiff Rupes pads, it defies logic how these stiff pads can finish out so beautifully. Absolutely blew my other combination right out of the water. I wasn`t expecting the results I got at all.
