Most regreted detailing product purchase?

It`s funny you say that about Solution Finish. I did an Avalanche with it a few months ago and it looks like crap now. I`m getting it back in a few weeks to re-do. I`m not using SF on it this time. DG has a beta trim coating that is dyed black (you can only use it on black trim) that I will be using on it.

I find trim products to work better on some than others. There is not always one that works on everything.

True, but he features a lot of Avalanches in his advertising. I was betting that it would work...I lost the bet. :(

I found the same results to be true. It works great as long as there is no rain. But I have also found a solution. (See what I did there) I now use the Solution Finish and even do 2 applications to make sure I get the best results. If possible I leave it to bake in the sun for hours or even days. I then come back and coat it with Dlux. The Dlux seals in the in the SF while adding that extra layer of protection.

I believe he was working or even now has a Solution Finish Sealer that is for "Pro`s only".

For me it is Turtle Waxes-made (supposedly) Zymol`s Cleaner Wax. Don`t EVER try to apply it with a PC-DA. Nothing but dust.

I LOVE most of Meguiar`s because they available over-the-counter, BUT:
1) Early version of M105 that dusts like crazy. I know using a spritzer of cool water on the pad seems to be a "help" to resolving this problem, but I am not enamored with it. I mix it with the consumer-version of Ultimate Compound, which helps, just so I can rid of it.
2) Meg`s consumer-version of Water Spot Remover. Again, I may have an early production version of it, but on a black Ford FreeStyle, it just swirled the heck out of the paint. I use it for windows now, which is pretty good for removing water spots that occur from 2-bucket washing when hard-water is used. Summer temps and winds just evaporate the water too soon, even in the shade, so Meg`s WSR does help in that department.
3) Early version of Meg`s Ultimate Black Trim Restorer. It was gooier that anything, needed to be applied with a foam pad by hand in the proper amount, and on certain trim is just streaked. I see some are STILL having problems with it with the "updated and improved" version currently out. it is better, but I may have to try the Detailer Line All-Season trim Dressing suggested by others.

One area that REALLY needs to be emphasized for newbees is to buy quality microfiber clothes and towels. Cheap microfibers for product removal can negate all the hard work you put into trying to perfect an exterior or interior surface, depending on the paint type/quality or material composition. I may need to start a thread on this subject, but suffice it to say, trying to pinch pennies on this detailing item can have huge consequences concerning the appearance of vehicle, which may be why a newbee`s attempt to emulate a pro`s detailed vehicle seen pictured within this forum is impossible to duplicate. The adages of "You get what you pay for" and "Penny wise and pound foolish" are truisms when purchasing quality microfiber.

Lonnie- I really liked the M105 v1.0, though I have replaced it with M101.

About your M105 dusting, did you buff it off while still wet? I`m always a little surprised to hear about dust issues with M105 as I`ve sure used a lot of it without noticing that.

Troy, I like your "solution". How long do you wait between coats?

I usually wait 1-2hours. But I also park the vehicle out in the sun to help expedite the dry/cure time. The 2nd application is just to make sure I have everything covered as good as possible really.

I just do not like work time, and if you dry it out, the dust that it leaves behind seems to contribute to micro-marring. In my own hypocrisy, it may be the cheap microfiber towels I use (see reply #108 above).

Lonnie- OK, that`s reasonable. I just happened to immediately *like* that short work time. I do agree about the micromarring from buff-off, though some M34 helps a *little*.

What do you prefer over their Tire & Trim Guard + with regard to durability?

I rarely use anything on my tires. When I do, I usually just use a Meguiars tire gel. On the inside, I`m pretty sold on Poorboys Natural Look. I love the smell, it`s inexpensive, and people give compliments on it.

WaxManRonnie- OK., thanks. I just use water-based Tire Dressings and Interior QDs, but I do like the Ultima T&TG+ for black trim on the exterior and under the hood/etc. Never tried it on tires, don`t plan to either.

Going to add Gyeon Anti Fog to the list. PITA to work with and doesn`t seem to perform that well compared to Rain X Anti fog.

Probably the Gtechnique trim coating. Only lasted a couple months, looks terrible now.

I had zero luck with this product as well. Total waste of money.

Hmmm and I just picked some up to play with. I will see how it turns out.
