First off a HUGE thanks to two of my friends and also fellow autopians, Trey and Josh for building the shelf, cutting the holes and installing this ac unit in my garage!

Summer just got a little more bearable.

looks great! is it able to get it down to 75 in there at least? I bet adding those small reflective stick-on insulator panels to your garage door`s inside will help cooling things down quicker.

I just moved my digital thermometer into the garage so I`ll see...
Yes I need to get something for insulation for sure but I am not knowledgeable on those things.

Yeah give it time . The door insulation- there are a good amount of diy options. Amazon sells these panels that look like the car windshield covers and you just buy it by the roll, cut and stick them to each section of your garage door and that`s it.

What brand unit is that? My garage is partially underground and is cement block with very well insulated garage doors. It stays around 75-78 now, but still would like it to be cooler.

Most of the garage door company`s sell insulation kits that you can buy. I think we sell ours for around $200. It is mainly just thick styrofoam and isn`t hard to install. It can make a mess when installing it so have a shop vac ready!

This is what ours looks like: Foam Board Panels Garage Door Insulation Kit Polystyrene Kerfing Washable 8 Pack | eBay

75-78 without air cond? And you want it cooler? What are you doing ice sculpting? Lol.

Lol! This fat kid doesn`t like it hot!

It is just so humid here in Alabama that the 75 feels more like 85. We are at 90 degrees with 60% humidity today and that is a good day. And if I open one of my doors the cool air is gone.

I know what you mean. I`m your next door neighbor in South GA.

What`s your garage size?
12000 BTU is one ton.
Your at 13000 . So about 450 sq ft coverage.
I`m considering a split unit for my garage. Wish they insulated it though.

Its less than 450 for sure. So thats good then, should be plenty strong enough to cool the garage. Its one of those 2 car garages that only fits 1.5 cars (or two prius` or something I guess).

like I said, I was given this unit. My dad had 8 of these in his Ruidoso home before he switched to central air last year and somehow I only ended up with 1 of these suckers, wth? Haha

It has 3 fan settings...I switched it down to lowest and left it on overnight out of curiosity...walked into a garage that felt Much cooler than the temp reads, which is on the opposite side of the garage btw.

I can honestly say I`ve Never got the chills walking into any garage except for the one in my dads new home...and I got the chills in my garage just a little while ago, lol.

I can see this working out quite nicely..now I just have to reorganize the garage again today after work. But im waiting for the sun to peek out so I can wash my dirty black car before work in 3 hours.

Oh the dream of an air-conditioned garage. I`d need to do too much in order to make mine worth adding A/C too. Hopefully, your electric bill doesn`t take too large of a hit cooling yours down!

I was thinking the same in regards to the bill. I`d turn it up a bit higher inside the House while being out in the garage all day, that way you`re only running the unit that you really need instead of both on full blast.

The only "energy savings" my LG unit does is to just turn the compressor off once it reaches temp. rather than turning the unit off.

I honestly don`t care if it doubles my electric bill. It would be worth it to me to work in a more comfortable environment. I plan to keep my house open as well to ease the workload of the LG unit.

It has a timer function so if I need to, I can set it to come on a few hours before I get home but then I will just lose all that cold air when I open the garage

once I get a few more jobs in, I plan to spend some money on proper insulation because I have a spot where you can see sunlight come through and that`s definitely not efficient.

I turned it completely off before I left today and from 5am to 8am it already climbed up to 81 from the 75 it was at one lowest setting

Wow sounds like it`s working great. I`ve baked in a lot of garages just to get out of the sun/wind, but working at 75F sounds amazing.

and its a DRY 75 too...I`m not sure honestly if it will get much colder than that during the summer since I am purging air out of the garage door in several places- only one is noticeable but I walked outside of the garage and you can feel the cool air escaping

but also keep in mind that`s the temp Across the garage from the AC unit, I figure that`s a good measurement of the entire garage, it is much colder on the other wall, but either way.. humidity is almost zero in there. I wish I had a hygrometer or whatever it s called that measures that
