Hemi Orange Charger SRT8

First off, thanks to all the fellow Autopians who provided feedback on my previous thread with the paint readings. Just yet another reason why I love this forum/company.

In context-

This is the 2nd club car I have been asked to detail since I became a supporting vendor this January in the car club I have been active in for 4+ years now.

Although I treat every vehicle like my own, let's face it . when you know the owner and have a reputation to uphold and expectations to exceed, it makes one put a little extra effort in.

Well I had exactly 48 hours with this car and had to go to work 8 of them and there were two nights where I did not get much sleep to say the least. We agreed on two options at drop off and this would be all exterior with main concern on the paint.

It just took me a little longer to figure out what was going to work best and I kept seeing little chips here and there that I was afraid to make worse. I don't do much compounding and heavy polishing, as most people around here just won't pay for it.

Here is the breakdown after multiple combinations. Ended up using

Rupes uhs system w/6" pads, speed 5 on my duetto.

Turns out my readings were higher on the black paint because it was painted over the orange- i guess from the factory. tiny chips revealed after polishing showed orange paint underneath.

Ix snow and wash at coin op with good mitts
Clayed w handy towel and clay bar where needed to reach into tight areas.

Wheels: assortment of fancy brushes
Sonax wheel cleaner
Hydro2 lite
just a quick clean really
Tuff shine tire brush and megs apc
bold n bright liquid on tires and plastic trim
Pinnacle exhaust cleaner on corsca tips
Nanoskin rain on glass after poorboys glass cleaner
Interior wipedown with natural look (just a little courtesy clean)
Hydro max on door jams

Heres some initial pics

ok that pic had lsp on it then. I had to wait for 6pm when the sun is perfectly placed onto my driveway for the similar angled sun shot.

after uhs only

Now I had to decide what to do with the paint as coating was not happening at this point...

Orange - gloss enhancing polish applied via duetto + red hydrotech pad

Then
Black Ice- two consecutive coats, applied 12 hours apart.

Black-

Poorboy's Black Hole via hand , red wax applicator.
EX (4 layers applied 1 around or so apart) (red angled b&s wax pad)
12 hours later Nattys Black two layers consecutive (notched b&s pad-my favorite!)

Hand application of uhs with a cyan hydrotech applicator then gep+black ice on bumper.

Front end- Pws via megs burgandy pad and my megs DA drill adapter (needed that nano!) Then nattys black wax x2

Looks sharp, did you find that paint to be pretty darn hard?
I'm still on the fence about the science between the whole 'soft' and 'hard' paint and I've polished at least a dozen modern mopars in the last three years. I guess I couldn't tell you if one was harder paint or softer paint than the other. I would have to have someone explain to me exactly why one paint can be harder or softer than the other before I would really understand it.

So the short answer to your question- I dont know :shrug

Always liked to think my black paint was super soft but my logical side always told me this was an excuse or rationalization of some sort to cope with my denial that I actually was causing the swirls :)

I'm not a huge Charger fan, but that orange paint and the black grill and decals make it look like a different car. It's like that car needed a vibrant color. Your awesome work sure helps too.

Yeah I could agree with you not huge charger fan myself but love all Mopars.

If I was to buy a charger it would be this exact color scheme and model style because I don't like the front end on the new ones

Ive polished fords for the past 10 years. Ultimate compound and an orange pad would usually get the job done, even if I had to do it a couple times.

My Jeep is a whole nother story. The ultimate compound and orange pad didnt do anything except shine the paint. Tried the optimum cutting MF pad and nothing. Tried Adapt on both pads and it was doing hardly any correction, would have required 4 -6 attempts to remove the auto wash marks.

Finally chased down some D300 and megs cutting disks and it worked like a dream.

Hard paint I think.

Does mopar use Mercedes paint now?

You've got me drooling over here with that Charger! Love those cars and I'm sure the pics just don't do it justice. Great job!

Thats what I thought after the black ice went over the GEP..

That pic looks great. Very nice. I still have yet to try my GEP. So many products, so little time.

I loved that Megs combo, too. Plus the scent. Yum.

That last part almost made me spit out my coffee. Thanks.

Thanks. It's funny because when the owners pulled up in the green challenger i saw the wide open eyes of the husband and i swear he had his jaw dropped. :)

It has been almost a month since the job

Saw the car for the 1st time since then tonight at the track. Definitely stands out. Owners are still beyond happy and he said everyone tells them how good it looks. It just glows. Quite impressive in person.

Thanks. Theyve been using the blackfire rw @qd and bf rw i gave them after the job.
Its really nice to have a club member who you see frequently get so excited about their paint looking great.

I have a hard time giving away quality car care stuff to most of these people much less getting someone to use it.

Seen saturday evening at the car show... (would have been my vote for best charger in the category Hands down)

Poorboy’s shine on the black. Black hole,ex, nattys black. proof that layering actually works, especially when you`re low on clear.

I`m talking to the husband about his wifes car and we both look at it (2nd pic) and he tells me, "look at it, it`s about to change color as it gets dark" and pats me on the back

(Like this)

I think I really like working on the modern Mopar shades of orange. I`ve done two so far and have a third wanting to drop off end of july or early august. His and the wifes new b5 blue scat pack (truth: i have been salivating at getting to work on b5 since I became a full fledged Autopian, and have a `17 go mango charger srt in the discussion phase now since car is being built currently)
The challenger i referenced that has been collecting trophies since the start of show season..he is competing with my buddys yellow RT challenger...they crack me up..i will be posting on the yellow one soon..something strange on the new paint i saw tonight
